They believe that they should minister to the ““total young person’ in an attempt to meet his social, emotional and spiritual needs. To do so they have developed an exciting sum- mer program with Marietta youth involving two weeks of Vacation Bible School, two weeks of regular camp plus two months of sports and recreational activities, field trips, bike hikes, and various ‘‘Wilderness camp- ing adventures’’ involving backpacking, canoeing, rock climbing and rappell- ing. In order to staff such an ambitious summer com- munity project, the Con- gregational Bible Church has hired Ron Miller, the Delbert Hiestand SUSQUEHANNA TIMES — Page 11 former camping director for “Youth for Christ’’ in Lancaster County, full-time to work with Gary Newton, the Youth Pastor. Working under the leadership of these two men will be a full-time staff of eight young people from this area who have given up their prospects of good paying summer jobs to help with Marietta youth. Each of these summer youth counselors will be responsible for developing a close relationship with various young people from town and planning activ- ities with them. A sincere attempt will be made by these counselors to show love to the youth and to help them through their problems.
