State Agriculture Secre- tary Kent Shelhamer urges people to keep their dogs under control as required by law. ““Our dog law officers cannot be personally re- sponsible for the behavior of the large dog population of Lancaster County,” Shelhamer said. ‘‘Under the law, dog owners are responsible for any dam- ages caused by their pets.” The state law of 1965 requires licensing of all dogs older than 6 months by January 15th of each year. ‘“Anyone who truly cares for their dog will have it licensed and keep it at home, out of trouble and off the road,’’ Shelhamer opined on this point.
