The Susquehanna Times is being used as an educational tool at Seiler School in Mount Joy. Mrs. Esther Kettering, the read- ing teacher at Seiler, is having one of her classes read it every week as an exercise. No doubt the kids will read this article when it appears. It would hence behoove the Times to utilize a plethora of abstruse words with profli- gance, as a pedagogical act of philanthropy... though we would eschew obfusca- tion. A letter from Mrs. Kettering is reprinted be- low: Dear Friends; Friends you have been! Thank you so much for your generous contribution of free Susquehanna Times issues for use in many special reading classes. We have been doing many things with the issues-reading orally and silently; reading for comprehsion; identifying headings, captions, paragraphs, articles of information, articles of influence, idioms, exaggerations, humor, generosity, bravery, and on and on. We have compared prices and offerings of advertisements. One child and his father used a coupon and tried the food in one of the restaurant. We have found a wealth of resources for vocabulary study. I have personally enjoyed the use of the paper immensely. I found it to be a stimulation reading April 12 Times is educational tool at Seiler adventure. At first we thought we would use it several weeks. But, the veeks have stretched into months. We have now decided to use it through the April and May. So, please continue sending it through the last week of May. As a personal thank I called yesterday about the possibility of having a picture taken and published for the children using the paper. I believe this would be quite a rewarding experience for the children and hope you will find it worthy of time and space. Sincerely, you, I am enclosing a check Mrs. of five dollars as a contribution towards expenses. Esther Kettering Fishing Specials at Root Distributor 653-4100 537 W.
