January 11, 1978 Obituaries MABEL BARR BALMER Mrs. Mabel F. Barr Balmer, 86, a guest at Myers Rest Home, Mount Joy RD1, and formerly of Elizabethtown, died unex- pectedly on January 1st. She had been under a doctor’s care. She was a widow of the late John A. Balmer. Born in Millersville, she was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Harnish Forry. She was a member of Christ United Church of God, Elizabethtown. She is survived by two sons, Elwood Barr and John Barr, both of Eliza- bethtown; five grandchil- dren; seven great-grand- children; and a brother, J. Elvin Forry, of St. Peters- burg, FL. J. CHARLES WAGNER J. Charles Wagner, a native of Marietta, died unexpectedly on January 1st at the Bryn Mawr Hos- pital. He had been under the care of a physician. He was 70 years old. - Wagner lived in the Philadelphia area for the last 40 years. An engineer, he founded Impossible Electronics Technique, Inc., in Wayne. The company manufactures low light level closed circuit TV cameras. He was a graduate of Marietta High School and F&M Academy. He was born in Marietta, a son of the late Jesse E. and Sarah A. Zuch Wagner. He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Shellen- berger Wagner; a son, Jesse Charles Wagner II; a daughter, Ruth Ann; and two grandchildren. ARBELIA R. BOWLEY Mrs. Arbelia R. Bowley, - 96, of Market Street C, Bainbridge, died on Janu- ary 3rd after a brief illness. She was the widow of Libby M. Bowley. She was born in Win- chester, VA, a daughter of the late Scott and Annie . Wetzel Ambrose. She was a member of St Luke’s Lutheran Church, Bain- bridge. Surviving are four chil- dren: Marshall A., Middle- town; Mrs. Anne R. Lane, Lancaster; Joseph W., Elizabethtown; Ethelda, wife of Daniel Hilt, Bain- bridge; and four grand- children, 13 great-grand- children, and a brother, Leslie Ambrose of Gold Hill, Oregon. BELLE K. GARBER Mrs. Belle K. Garber, 84, of Mount Joy RD2, died on January 4th at Lancaster General Hospital following a short illness. Born in Dallastown, she was a daughter of the late Hamilton B. and Barbara Lecrone Kauffman. She was a member of the Donegal Presbyterian Church and the Elizabeth- town Senior Citizens Group. She graduated from West Chester Normal School, and taught in the Doylestown area before her marriage. Surviving are two sons, Norman K., Chappaqua, NY, and Simon K., State College; three daughters, Ellen K., State College; Margaret G., wife of Robert K. Brown, Mount Joy RD2; and Rachel G., wife of Orval R. Lovett, Jr., Newark, Del. Also surviv- ing are 11 grandchildren and S great-grandchildren. KATHRYN M. SARGEN Mrs. Kathryn M. Sargen of Bainbridge RD1, and formerly cof Marietta, died at Osteopathic Hospital after a long illness. She was 75 years old. She was the widow of Maxwell Sargen, who died in 1974. Born in Marietta, she was a daughter of the late Harry C. and Cora Heilman Markley. She was a member of the English United Presbyterian Church in Marietta. She lived in this area all of her life. Surviving are these chil- dren: K. Jane Sargen, Marietta; Charles M., Arlington, Texas; Anna, wife of Norman Nye, Denver, Colo.; Joseph, Rheems; Josephine, wife of Douglas Reichart, Reading; James, Marietta; Artennis, wife of William Gohn, Arlington, VA; Louis, Eliz- abethtown; Cleon, West Chester; Armand, U.S. Marine Corps, NC; E. Scott, Bainbridge (with whom she resided); and Robert, Mount Joy RDI. Also surviving are a stepson, George Sargen of Elizabethtown; a step- daughter Helen, wife of Ross McElroy, Elizabeth- town; 2S grandchildren; and four great-grandchil- dren. ANNA MAE EBY Anna Mae Eby, a retired elementary school teacher in the Donegal District, died January 4th in the Lehman Nursing Home, Rheems. She had been ill for nine months. Miss Eby was 72. She had been a teacher for 45 years. She had resided at 630 Donegal Springs Road, and was an active member of St. Mark’s United Metho- dist Church. She was president of the Unite Methodist Women, the Sunday school superintend- ent for the junior depart- ment, and sang soprano in the choir. RAT JE She was also active in the Girl Scouts, and was recognised by the Penn Laurel Girl Scout Council in 1967 for her outstanding service. She was a craft and nature consultant for the scouts, a day camp director, and neighborhood chairman. She was president of the Mount Joy BPW and presi- dent of Farm Women Society #8. She was a member of the Mount Joy Community Chorus and the Mount Joy Gibson Girls. Born in East Donegal Township, she was a daughter of David H. Eby and the late Katie Nissly Eby. Besides her father, a guest at Village Vista, she is survived by four sisters: Ruth N. Eby, Mount Joy; Elizabeth E. Hottenstein; Vivian E. Denlinger; and Mildred E. McGuigan, all of Lancaster. EPHRAIM FRICK Ephraim L. ‘‘Whitey’’ Frick, 48, of 112 E. Donegal St., Mount Joy, died January Sth at Lancaster General Hospital. He had been admitted the day before. He was employed as a punch-press operator at New Standard in Mount Joy. A Mount Joy native, he was a son of the late Franklin D. and Ellen Coover Frick. He is survived by his wife, A. Marlene Martin Frick; a daughter Bonita, wife of Robert Rehrer, Middletown; a son Larry Jerome Frick, Harrisburg; six grandchildren; two brothers, Howard of Mount Joy and Eli of Lewistown; a sister Betty, wife of Theodore Dunk, Marietta; and a sister Della, wife of David Montgomery, Stras- burg. MARTHA METZLER Martha (Mrs. Paul) Metzler, 65, of Springville, AL, and formerly of Mount Joy, died on December 29th in a Birmingham, AL, hospital. She had lived in Alabama since 1949. She was a daughter of the late Ezra and Martha Zercher Engle. She was born in Mount Joy. Surviving her, in this area, are: Jacob Engle, Middletown (a brother); a sister Ruth Frontz of Lancaster; 2 sister Rhoda, wife of Marlin Kaylor, Elizabethtown; a brother Ezra Engle, Jr., of Mount Joy; and a brother Charles Engle of Landisville.
