November 23, 1977 Zion kids play pilot and see security measures, fire boats at airport The kids at Zion nursery school got a chance to play airplane pilot the other week. Here's a report: The kids, along with teachers and two mothers, went to Harrisburg Inter- national Airport, where they were met by an air- port policeman. He showed them how passengers get on the plane, and demon- strated the security checks. The 14 kids also saw the baggage pickup. Next they went to the firehouse and saw the trucks. The airport has boats, also, for rescuing and firefighting in the event of a plane crashing into the river. — The most exciting part of the tour, though, was inspecting an Army C-130 camoulflaged cargo plane. They walked through the cavernous hold up to the cockpit, and everyone got to play pilot or co-pilot! Other field trips are being planned. Marietta Auxilliary to Columbia Hospital bazaar The Marietta branch of the Columbia Hospital Auxilliary has made their plans for the annual Christ- mas luncheon: It will be held at the home of Mrs. Ralph Miller on Fairview Avenue, and it will be open to the public for the price of $2.50 at noon on Dec. 12th. There will be a lunch, and additional sweet stuff will be on sale. The last meeting was How the hail to do it The RRTA has come out with a small booklet which they hope will tell bus riders and potential bus riders everything they always wanted to know about bus riding but never got around to asking whereby they may have been afraid to take a bus { | } | it didn’t matter —this was Mount Joy and you wete trusted. i I also remember how, when my father died, the local funeral director’s wife who dealt with grief on a day to day basis, cried at our loss and that, my friends, is caring and caring is only found in small towns and I'm for- tunate that my small town is Mount Joy. (See, I can’t even write a short cover letter.) In any event, 1 hope you like my entry. I had fun doing it and, if for no other through sheer ignorance. It’s called ‘‘The Bus Rider’s Guide’’ and the RRTA is passing out door to door in Lancaster, and giving it away to non -Lancastrians for the ask- ing. The concise yet complete 19-page tome is broken up reason, someone else now knows how I feel about this town and its people. Mount Joy isn’t just a place to live, it’s a way of life for me. Oh, to be sure, there are those who would say well, what does she know, she’s never lived anywhere ¢lse. That’s true. However, I've visited alot of different laces and have just come om a vacation in what has to be our most exotic state, Hawaii, and it still feels good to return to where your ‘‘roots’’ are. I feel .. sorry for all those folks who don’t know what ‘‘Roots” really are as they move . from place to place and after awhile all places seem the same. We are such a busy nation on the go that people don’t take time to settle down long enough to establish a meaningful relationship with a town . .and its people. ,
