One candidate - Jefferson Hartzler - has initiated many fine concepts and has steadily stayed on course. Dr. Hartzler must be impressing the incumbents as their political strategy has been to adapt many of Dr. Hartzler’s ideas. From ‘‘meeting the candidates’ at Grandview, to ‘“meeting the candidates’’ at Maytown, to the ‘‘forum’’ at Donegal High School, we heard the echoes of concepts voiced by Jeff Hartzler from the inception of the campaign. Jeff Hartzler proposed the pre-published agenda of the school board at the Maytown meeting, the semi-annual public meetings with the school board, more open communication, and quality education with no curtailment of basic skills programs. Why haven’t we heard the incumbents promote and utilize these same concepts on education and communication long before this particular election? We hear, ‘“‘talk to us, anywhere at all’, and this is all fine and dandy, but do they listen and absorb enough to put public sentiment into action? We have been reminded of all this ‘‘formal education’ of the incumbents, yet, when a simple question is asked, most of the public acknowledging the content, one incumbent in particular always declares ‘I'm not sure what the question is!”’. Is the questioning really that provocative that skirting the issue is the only policy, in addition, of course, to Start your savings now passing the buck to the other incumbent? ’ ’ and you i be under Santa's Hat All this formal education is grand and we are constantly noxt year. reminded of it. With all due respect and credit to the voting public, we are all educated to one degree or another. Education simply means one is learned. It does not necessarily mean one is intelligent, sensible, or sensitive. We should independently look to those candidates who can sensitively listen to the public and intelliggntly respond with direct honesty. 2 ach drpyerier (neu od b- 340 008 FDIC _~ "HOMETOWN BANK" 101 E.
