November 2, 1977 Obituaries CHARLES M. FUNK Charles Miller Funk, 83, of 314 E. Main St. Mount Joy, was found dead at his home Monday by his son. An autopsy will be per- formed. He was the husband of the late Ruth A. Raezer Funk. He retired in 1961 from Slaymaker Lock Company, but later worked for Grey Iron Casting Company, Mount Joy, as a polisher. He was a life member of Mount Joy Friendship Fire Company 1. Born in Mount Joy, he was a son of the late Samuel and Ellen Brene- man Funk. He is survived by a son Lester Funk, Elizabeth- town; one daughter, Mil- dred, wife of Laurie Jones, Mount Joy; three grand- children; one great-grand- child; a sister, Mrs. Mary Divet, Mount Joy, and a brother, James Frank Funk, Manheim. Mrs. May R. Hicks Mrs. May Rettew Hicks, 70, of Maytown, died unexpectedly at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at her home. She was under the care of a doctor. Born in Marietta, she was a daughter of the late George and Agnes Neale Rettew. A graduate of Millers- ville Normal School in 1927, she was an elemen- tary school teacher in Maytown for 33 years before her retirement in 1974. A member of the Maytown Reformed United Church of Christ, she also belonged to the National Retired Teachers Associa- tion, the Columbia Hospital auxiliary, the Maytown Golden Age Club and the Maytown Historical Soci- ety. Surviving are two daugh- ters; Louise, wife of the Rev. Harry A. River St., Maytown, died Monday at Lancashire Hall, following an illness of five months. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Maytown. Born in Dover, Elizabeth Smoot appointed Elizabeth Gurland Smoot is the new visiting instruc- tor in modern languages at Elizabethtown College. Mrs. Smoot holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from Brooklyn College and Brown University, respec- tively, and was an instruc- tor at Franklin & Marshall College for the last six years. She is a member of Lancaster Women’s Center and Feminists for Media Rights.
