Donegal Pacers
by Charles Leader
On the July 4th holiday,
3 Donegal Pacers took part
in distance races. Chuck
Leader participated in the
Hanover Heritage Day
Run, a 6 mile race. His
time was 33:26 for the 6
mile course, which earned
him a 9th place finish out
of 100 total runners. Leader
also placed 3rd in his age
bracket (19-29) and receiv-
ed a third place ribbon for
his efforts.
On the same day two
other Donegal Pacers (Dave
Halbleib and Chuck Ports-
er) participated in the
American Bank Pagoda
Run, held in Reading. This
was a tough half marathon
course covering 13.1 miles.

300 other runners. Portser
ran the race in 1 hour, 41
min. and 8 seconds.
On July 9th, only five
days after their previous
races, Chuck Leader and
Dave Halbleib traveled to
Maryland for another race.
This time they participated
in the Gun Powder Neck 10
mile race held on the
Aberdeen Proving
Grounds. This race is
considered one of the major
races held on the east
coast. Runners from many
states participated.
Leader covered the
Course in 61:50 for 46th
place in a field of 300.
Halbleib covered the course
in 67:12 which placed him
105th.

Jay Heller
Sertoma Club
holds Charter
Banquet
The Donegal Sertoma
Club held its Charter Ban-
quet last July 16th at the
Carpenter’s Inn. The new
club was sponsored by the
Lancaster Sertoma Club.
Following a dinner, rep-
resentative Ken Brandt
addressed the group. Char-
ter members were intro-
duced by Don Bridges and
installed by Charles Shank.
Awards were presented by
Jack Warrenfeltz and Ger-
ald Remley. The Charter
was presented by Vince
Hart.
Officers of the new club
are: Jay M. Heller, Presi-
dent; Archie E. Seats, Jr.,
