This the second annual awards. The students each received $200 toward his or her continuing education at an institute of higher learning. The photo above shows, standing behind, coaches Dennis lezzi on the left, and Jim Metzler on the right. Dennis is the president of the Donegal Coaches Association, and Jim is chairman of the scholarship commit- tee. In the front are the recipients of the awards, chosen on the basis of financial need, attitude, and letters of recommendation. They are, from the left: Phyllis Shope, who is headed for studies in Medical Technology at E-town College; Jake Sherk, who plans to become a chémist at Juniata College; and Loris Raber, going to Clarion State for Elementary Education. The Times apologizes to all concerned for the late appearance of this photo, which should have been in three weeks ago. Mount Joy water supply will be discussed at meeting The Susquehanna River Basin Commission, meeting at 1:00 p.m., on July 14, 1977, at the Penn Harris Motor Inn, Camp Hill, will be followed by a public hearing on municipal water supply proposals to develop groundwater by the Mount Joy Borough Authority. The hearing will be held to receive pertinent testimony for the local sponsors and interested parties concern- ing the proposed develop- ment and potential impacts on the water and related resources of the basin. The principal areas of interest upon which the Commission is basing its review of the projects are demand projections; avail- ability of enough water to satisfy future needs; and efficient utilization of avail- able water supplies. The application docu- ments filed by the project sponsors are available for public inspection during regular business hours at the office of the Susque- hanna River Basin Com- mission, S012 Lenker Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 170SS. The offices are open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Persons wishing to parti- cipate in the hearing may present oral and/or written testimony. Those wishing to testify in person are requested to contact the Secretary to the Commis- sion, in writing, prior to the hearing. The Lancaster YMCA is in the process of extending its services to the Donegal District and other areas of Lancaster County. Since Lancaster County is serviced by only one YMCA Center, this facility alone is not capable of housing activities for a comprehensive county-wide program. Therefore, in co- operation with the Donegal School District, YMCA programs are going to be brought to the Mount Joy' —Marietta area. To insure a responsive program and quality lea- dership for all ages of men and women, we are urging interested people to com- plete the survey form and return it to Mr. Scott Underkoffler, -. Community Extension Director of the Lancaster YMCA, S572 North Queen Street, Lan- caster, PA 17603. The photo above shows, not a still from star wars, but a scene outside the Tastee-Freez at 454 W. Main St., Mount Joy. The giant creature is actually Bill Dommel of 114 S. Market St., Mount Joy, who was hired to wave at people outside the Tastee-Freez. This is his first experience with dog impersonation, and he told us that he was enjoying it. “It’s fun to wave at people and have them wave back," he said. Standing on the right is Roma Gardner, also of Mount Joy, who was baby-sitting Paul, center. Jes( ) No( ) Maybe( ) PP&L loophole —can make your bills easier to handle Pennsylvania Power & Light Company requires that all bills be paid on time or they will assess a delayed payment charge. However, they now will allow one loophole. Under a new policy, shaped to help older people meet their electric bills without paying the delayed payment charge, people on Social Security or a similar pension can have their payment date extended. If the due date on the electric bill falls between the 21st of one month and the Sth of the next month, no late charge needs to be assess- ed until the 6th of the month. This allows a person whose major source of income is his Social Secur- ity check, the option of paying the electric bill out of his next month’s check. That way he is less likely to run low on money for food or other necessities. It also avoids the late charge for people who may not be able to pay the bill until they receive the next Social Security check. However, the program does not go into effect automatically. To qualify, a person must fill out an application form giving his name, address, PP&L cus- tomer number and verifi- cation of his Social Security or other pension. To date only about 400 people have signed up even though the program is of potential value to many of the senior citizens of Lancaster County. If you would like to sign up for the Extended Due Date Program, you can get an application form from PP&L, 1701 Manheim Pike, Lancaster, Pa. or Lancaster County Office of Aging, 50 N. Duke St. Lancaster, Pa. 17602. Letter Dear Editor, Susquehanna Country had ripe tomatoes in Mount Joy last week. Sorry to say your informant from Mount Joy was misinformed or didn’t make a very thorough check. The first ripe tomato was picked June 18 at 214 W. Donegal St. The follow- ing Thursday (June 23) a bushel was picked to sell at Columbia Market. Better ‘‘check’’ time! next Paul E.
