Wally Walker visits basketball camp The Lancaster Area Bas- ketball Camp at DHS ended last week with a visit from Wally Walker, the Millersville youth who is now a star player with the Portland Trailblazers. Wally described the Girls’ Camp (the one which ended last week -boys were the week before that) as ‘‘a very good camp. It was pleasant because the girls here never complain about anything.” Mr. Walker comes from Wally Walker ac an illustrious family. His father recently retired as a professor at Millersville State, and his brother is Bob Walker, the congress- man. Wally was a Pennsyl- vania All-Star in High School, the A.C.C. Most Valuable Player in college, and is a member of the world championship team this year. Emil Swift, a coach at DHS, was Wally Walker’s coach in high school, at Penn Manor. ing the Basketball Camp girls. Bill Earhart, another DHS coach, told us that girls’ basketball is ‘“‘on the rise. More colleges are giving full basketball scholarships to women. Girls are getting serious about basketball.” At the end of the week, awards were given out. They are: Best foul shooting, Betsy Dinger (jr. high) and Sherri Kinsey (sr. high); Most improved, Nora Motter; Most valuable camper, Pam Kolp; Ms. Defense, Sherri Kinsey; Ms. Hustle, Betsy Dinger; Winning team (‘‘The Green Machine’’) consisted of Darla Kelley, Nora Motter, Pam Kolp, Sherri Kinsey, Tanya Merchant, Sharon Hershey, and Judy Kerschner.
