Mount Joy, at their regular meeting, June 13. The S-acre tract land is located north of Route 230, on the Hostetter Farm in the eastern end of the borough. Hess-Ulrich Inc., will build a new-car show- room as well as provide space for used cars. They are presently located at New Haven and W. Main Sts. The council authorized the Police Department to order a 1977 Plymouth Fury as a replacement vehicle for the department. The cost is $4933.46. A decision to retain the Donegal Springs Road Park as a memorial park was made. Council originally hoped to rezone the plot and sell it. Citizens of the area voiced their objections and a spokesman, former councilman Ronald E. Haw- thorne, 365 Donegal Springs Road, said the playlot was still used by area youngsters. Haw- thorne asked council's permission to hold neigh- borhood activities on the lot to raise funds for replace- ment of the playground equipment. Council found no fault with the idea. Omar Groff noted that the rental lease of the Cove Picnic Area from Lancaster County Vo-Tech School ex- pires July 1979. Council rents the Cove from the school and in twin sub-lets it to the Mount Joy Jaycees. There is a question of whether or not the Mount joy Borough will furnish lawn-mowing and garbage removal services for the Cove after this season. There is also the question of who is responsible for insurance for the area. The council will study the set-up and return with an answer at a future meeting. Next meeting of council will be July 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Borough Hall. A 100% ‘‘yes’’ was given on a roll-call vote to adopt the 1977-78 school budget for the Donegal District, with the following resolution: ‘‘Should the present state subsidy be increased for the 1977-78 budget year following the adoption of the current Donegal budget, be it resolved: that any increase in state -subsidy will be applied to; (a) a reduction of current district obliga- tions and indebtedness, and/or (b) an appropiate reduction of taxes for the 1978 tax year.” The $4,476,408.00 bud- get is an increase of $516,612.00 or 13% over the 1976-77 budget. Revenue from local sources were based on: 1. 103 mills on assessed value of $16,181,710.00 on real estate (1976-77 rate was 99 mills) 2. $10.00 per capita tax on adult residents ($5.00 on school code and $5.00 on act S11) 3. One percent on earned wage and income (2 shar- ed with local municipali- ties) 4. One half of a $10.00 Occupational Pricilege Tax. S. One percent real estate transfer tax. In other business, a letter of resignation was submitted by Miss Susan M. Young, who has been on a leave of absence this year, 1976-77, from a district math position. She plans to pursue graduate study in biology. She re- quested that her resigna- tion become effective im- mediately. Additional subs were hired: Mrs. Beth Becker Gallagher-special educa- tion; and Miss Debra J. Simone-secondary social studies. The board set coaches’ and co-curricular salary guides for 1977-78: increas- ing the minimum pay for football, track and tennis head coaches by $125, and assistants in these three sports by $87.50. All other minimums increased $50. Also recommended was a raise of 10% in intramural compensation from $2.50 to $2.75 per hour. A recent survey of area intramural pay indicates that this will bring Donegal closer to the average intramural com- pensation. The Donegal School Board set meeting dates for 1977-78: Third Thursday of each month (except De- cember reorganization meeting). The board mem- bers plan a September 7 opening date, and hopeful- ly, Tuesday, June 6, 1978 final day, for students. Days to be made up due to emergency closing will be June 7, June 8, June 9 and June 12. (These will permit Vo-Tech students to also make up on the same dates.) DID YOU HEAR...
