Last Sunday the Mount
Joy V.F.W. burned its
mortgage. They also had a
party to celebrate the full
ownership of their building
on Longenecker Road east
of town. They had been
paying on it since 1962.
While the mortgage was
burning, a 220-pound pig
had been roasting on a spit
since 3:00 a.m. that morn-
ing. Music was provided by
the John Enck country and
western band from Man-
heim.
Attending were 1S guests
from the Coatsville Vet-
erans’ Hospital.
The festivities were held
under the new pavillion, on
which there is no mort-
gage.
The meeting was called
to order by commander
Martin S. Brown. Rev.
Whitesel of St. Luke's
Episcopal Church led a
prayer. Then, following an
address by 9th District
commander Raymond C.
Mullin, the paper was
burned.
