Jim Wohlfeil received the Reader’s Club Award at Seiler school. Vic Hann Rotary district governor Vic Hann visited the Bain- bridge- Maytown Rotary Club last week. He con- gratulated the club on its 100% attendance record for March. A visit from the district governor is quite unusal. District 739 includes Lan- caster, Lebanon, Dauphin, Cumberland, York and Adams Counties. Mr. Hann discussed the colorful history of the district in his speech to the local Rotarians. Miss Sue Baker, special reading teacher, came up with a unique project for her DARE reading classes at Seiler. The kids made a hot air balloon from garbage bags. There was some consternation amongst those watching the attempted take-off when it was learned that a propane stove would be used to inflate the balloon. “Will it explode?’’ one bystander asked. ‘‘And if it does, will it smell bad?’ In fact, there was no danger whatsoever —the propane did not go into the balloon, but was merely used to heat air. The flight would have been a smashing sucess, except that the balloon leaked through its seams. It rose almost off the ground, but then sagged to earth. Apparently the tape used to join the seams was not strong enough. It was a noble try. With improved technology, maybe the DARE balloon will be elevated as high as the kids’ improved reading levels. Missionary to address Marietta Assembly of God The Rev. Gordon J. White, a newly-approved Assemblies of God mis- sionary to Ivory Coast, West Africa will be guest speaker Wednsday, June 1, 7:00 p.m. at the Marietta Assembly of God, Route 141 and Oremine Rd., the Reverend E. Leroy Hoover, pastor, has announced. During their first term of missionary service, Mr. White and his wife Faye will be engaged in litera- ture distribution, evangel- ism, and church planting. They will also be assisting the national church wher- ever possible. A nation with over four million people, Ivory Coast is the richest and most economically self-sufficient state in former French West Africa. It is located on the south side of the African bulge and is slight- ly larger than New Mexico. Sixty percent of the people are animists and over twenty percent are Mos- lems. The first resident As- semblies of God missionar- ies to Ivory Coast were appointed in 1968. There are now 3 Assemblies of God missionaries in that county, working with 45 national ministers in 93 churches. An estimated 4,061 people regularly at- tend the Assemblies of God churches in Ivory Coast. Prior to their missionary approval, the Whites pi- oneered the Assembly of God church in Manchester, Pennsylvania, and pastored the Northeast Assembly of God church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mr. White holds a B.S. degree from Temple University in Phil- adelphia, Pennsylvania. Mrs. White holds B.S. and M.S. degree from the Uni- versity of Arizona in Tuc- son. Mr. White will be shar- ing his plans for the work in Ivory Coast at this special missions rally. The _public is invited to attend. Fass sels % i : wll NM Or ew IH
