Representatives from Lancaster Community Ac- tion Program gave a pro- gress report c= the planned Community Canning Center in the Boro Hall basement. The tentative opening date is June 6. Marietta Lions Club as- sumed the maintenance of the four fixtures in the square. Marietta Restoration As- sociates signed a two year lease on the old Zion May 18, 1977 Church, with an option to renew. Maintenance will be the responsibility of the associates. Permission was granted the American Legion to sponsor the annual Mem- orial Day Parade; the social affairs committee of the Zion Lutheran Church to conduct a mother-father picnic at Memorial Park on June 5; Pioneer Fire Co., to conduct a flea market and yard sale on June 25. The clean up = fix up program - is in progress, with the second phase of trash pick-ups set for May 12 (from Bank Street to Gay Street); May 19 (from Chestnut Street to Gay Street); and on May 26 (from Gay Street to Arm- strong). Stan Curry wins the 440 Donegal’s Stan Curry set a new meet record of 49.5 in the 440 at the Lancaster Lebanon League cham- pionships last week. Stan came in second in the 100 yards and the 220. In both events he was Mathias vaults to Chip Mathias Hockey Team to meet The Norlanco Club Hockey Team will begin its fourth season of play with an important meeting on Wednesday, May 25, 1977 at 7:00 P.M., in the Home Economics room of the W.I. Beahm Jr. High School. Last year’s team mem- bers are urged to continue their support by attending this meeting. Prospective members are reminded that club hockey is an oppor- tunity for women who are beyond high school age and are not presently playing on a college team to con- tinue playing hockey. Play- ers from Elizabethown, Manheim, Marietta, May- town and Mount Joy areas are welcome to participate. The club’s home field is Donegal High School where games are played on Sat- urdays and Sundays begin- ing in September. Present- ly, there are approximately seven club teams in the counties of Lancaster, Leb- barely edged out by Bob Allen, a McCaskey junior. Allen was one step ahead in the 100, and two steps ahead in the 220. Stan’s time in the 440 was one full second better than his time last year, While Stan Curry was doing his thing at the Lancaster Lebanon League Championships, his friend ‘‘Chip’’ Mathias of Columbia was also compet- ing in the pole vault. He set a new meet record in that event of 13 feet, 3 inches, beating the old record by 3 inches. Chip also competes in other track events, and was named Most Valuable bas- ketball player last year. His anon, York, and Berks which have formed the Women’s Intercounty Hockey League. This past season, Norlanco played a total of twelve league games and finished in second place. The Norlanco Club would like to continue offering non-playing memberships along with the regular which also broke the re- cord. Stan told a reporter that he could probably have done the 440 in a second less, but he was saving some of his energy for the 220, which took place later. victory eventual goal for the pole vault is 14-6: he has already cleared 14 feet in practice. Chip (his real name is Charles) stands 6-1 and weighs 150 pounds. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mathias, 1020 Central Avenue, Columbia. Chip started pole vaulting when a friend bet him a candy bar that he couldn’t do it. Of course, he won the candy bar. playing memberships. Bike safety course A bike safety program will be held at the May- town Elementary School on Saturday, May 21. The program will begin at 9 a.m. Included in the safety program will be a film, a bike inspection and bicycle skills. Grades one through six are invited to participate. There will be prizes for each grade. Prizes will be donated. by. Marcos, Res- taurant, Marietta, Doc's Restaurant, Marietta and Ridgeview Dairies of Eliza- bethtown. Parents are urged to come to the program. Rain date is May 28. The bike safety program is under the direction of Pastor and Mrs. Hall, Maytown.
