Names of Mount Joy The Mount Joy Commun- ity Council announces its activities for ‘‘Mount Joy Week’’' scheduled for Memorial Day weekend: A Hobby and Crafts Show, sponsored by the Mount Joy Historical So- ciety will be held at W.IL Beahm Junior High School, Saturday, May 21 from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 22, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. “Old Mount Joy’’ will be the theme and several old home movies from the 1930’s will be shown during this time. The Mount Joy Com- munity Ball, sponsored by the Mount Joy Lions Club will be held Friday, May 27 from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at the Mount Joy American Legion. The Dixielanders, an eight piece band, will provide the music. Pro- ceeds will go to the Lions Blind Fund. The admission is $5.00 per person, and tickets can be obtained by phoning 653-1661 or 633- 1022. A girl invitational softball tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, May 27 and 28 and will be sponsored by the Mount Joy Athletic Association. It will include ten teams from the Lancaster and Dauphin County areas, and will be held at the Mount Joy Boro Park, located between N. Market and N. Barbara Streets in Mount Joy. A Carnival will be held at the Mount Joy Boro Park Thursday and Friday, May 27 and 28 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., and on Satur- day, May 28, from 4:00 to 11:00 p.m. A display of fireworks will also be held at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. These events are sponsored by the Mount Joy Jaycees. In conjunction with the carnival, the Mount Joy Recreation Association will hold an ‘‘Anything Goes’ competition between the tree donors will be placed in a weather proof three sided revolving case, erect- ed on a concrete or brick base, which will be instal- led on the park grounds. Chet Flowers, chairman of the Park Commission said another tree planting pro- gram will begin in the fall. Mount Joy and Florin Fire Companies. The battle of the fire companies will be held at the Boro Park, Saturday, May 28, begin- ning at 6:30 p.m. The annual Memorial Day Parade will be held Saturday, May 28, at 2:00 p.m. Anyone interested in entering a float or partici- pating in this event should phone 653-5160. There will be no parking on Main St. from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. the day of the parade. Anyone wishing to operate a food stand during the parade must obtain a permit from the Boro office. It is resticted to local residents and organi- zations. Memorial Day Service will be held Monday, May 30, at 10:30 a.m. by the Mount Joy VFW #5752, and American Legion Post #185 at Memorial Park, located on Marietta Avenue in Mount Joy. Mother’s Day tea contest The winners of the Mother’s Day Tea contest held at the Schock Senior Center, 37 East Main Street, Mount Joy, were announced today by Miss Mildred Way, Chairperson of the event. The oldest mother pre- sent - Esther Hockenberry, Mount Joy, 78 years old, the grandmother with the most great grandchildren— Edna Brubaker, Mount Joy, a total of 14; the grandmother with the youngest grandchild—Car- rie Ney, Mount Joy, 2 months old; and mother or grandmother having a birthday closest to Moth- er’s Day—Ethel Herr, Mount Joy, May S. Prior to closing the day’s activities, Mrs. Cheryl Kelmmer, Multi-Service Supervisor of the Office of Aging, was honored at the Schock Center with a sur- prise baby shower.
