ERE Tp En April 20, 1977 Mount Joy Vo-tech FFA awards On Tuesday, March 29, the Mount Joy FFA held their Fourth Annual A- wards Banquet. This pro- gram was organized and conducted by the following FFA officers: President, James Wert, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James Wert, 289 Main Street, Landisville. Vice President, Linda Shenk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Layser Shenk, R.D. #4, Manheim; Secretary, Karen Hershey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Hershey, R.D. #2, Lititz; Treasurer, Kimberly Goodhart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Goodhart, R.D. #1, Mount Joy; Reporter, Lori Kulp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Eugene Kulp, R.D. #1, Manheim; and Sentinel, Colleen Spidle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Spidle, 660 He- brank Street, Lancaster. Our Master of Ceremon- ies kicked off the program with welcoming remarks. These remarks were im- mediately followed by the invocation, offered by Lori Kulp, and dinner. Prior to the evening entertainment which was presented by Ziggy the Magician from East Pet- ersburg, the following FFA awards were presented for the 1976/77 school year: Star Greenhand Award (Outstanding Junior FFA member) was given to 40,000 gallons of oil, of stone It was decided at the regular meeting of the East Donegal Township Super- visors that bids for 40,000 gallons of oil and 3,500 tons of stone will be opened on Saturday, April 23, at 8 a.m. Bids for a truck will be opened at 9 p.m. the same morning. Trees for the park will arrive soon. They will be pin oaks from Penn State. . Gregory Fouse, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Fouse, R.D. #1, Mount Joy. Star Chapter Farmer Award (Outstanding Senior FFA member) was given to Kimberly Goodhart. The most outstanding Floricul- ture student was James Wert, and the most im- proved Floriculture student was Colleen Spidle. The most outstanding Horticul- ture student was Mike Diffenderfer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Diffender- fer, 150S Manor Street, Columbia. The most im- proved Horticulture student was Leonard Mumma son “Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Mumma, 285 Anchor Road, Elizabethtown. The Lancaster County 3500 tons Chief Shirk reported 15 arrests for the month; six accidents with total dam- ages at $5,125; and owners of nineteen abandoned ve- hicles warned to remove same. Florin Fire Co. report At a recent meeting the Florin Fire Company re- ported a total of six accident and fire calls for March. A total of 126 men responded and 3%: hrs. time used. The company also re- ported to one public service call in March. They have purchased the following equipment to up- date the rescue truck. 600 ft. %’’ Dacron rope and 600 ft. %2’° Dacron rope to be used as Life Lines in rescue work. 20 ft. 3/8” Cam Allay Chain with hooks and a lifting capacity Easter egg The Annual Easter egg hunt of the American Legion, Post No. 185, Mount Joy, was held April 9 on the grounds of the Post Home. Winners of the prizes in the various catagories were: 0-3 age group, Tod Nixdorf, Erik Krushinski, Rachael Rice, Steven Lowery, Thomas Grady, Wendy Kauffman, Tracee Rehrer, Elizabeth Payne, Kristen Payne and David Brosey. 4-6 age group, Brett Gulden, Ken Shuman, John Gates, Chad Saunders, Stephanie Telekey, Dennis Oatman, Jay Pennell, |Shane Calaman, Lorri Rice and Bryan Kauffman. 7-9 age group, Richard Reinke, Tim Nye, Shawn Moran, Linda Wittel, Bob- by Eichler, Philip Nye, Kenneth O’Malley, Shawn Kline, Stacie. Shutt and John Moore. 10-12 age group, Michael Armstrong, Kenneth O’Malley, Larry Duvall, Susanna Greiner, Roy ‘Garber, Bender, Virginia Muckel, Tony Halloway, Roger Marianne Moore and Tracy Sevast. Receiving the prize for coming the farthest dis- tance was Mike Hershey who traveled from Grafton, of 6600 Ibs. and 2 pumper belts for repelling work. July 2nd and 9th are the announced dates for the annual carnivals at the company grounds. A “Kids’’ day is also in the company’s planning agenda. un North Dakota. Bankers Award to the Outstanding Ag-student of Mount Joy Vo-Tech School was given to Linda Shenk. Special recognition was given to Mr. Daniel Hel- wig, Floriculture Instructor, and Mr. Raymond Little, Horticulture Instructor for their assistance as FFA advisors. In appreciation for their help through the year Honorary Chapter Farmer Awards were given to Mr. Charles Ruhl of Ruhl’s Flowers, Mount Joy and Mr. Gary Shelly of Shelly’s Nursery, R.D. #7, Man- heim.
