April 6, 1977 The Coffee Crisis A lusty fanfare blow; Of nicotine and tar, Of pathological Girl Scouts On March 25, 26, and 27, Cadette Girl Scout troop #27 of Mount Joy went camping to Cornwall in Lebanon County. Corn- wall is operated by the Penn Laurel Girl Scout Council, Inc. The girls enjoyed sing- ing, cooking, and hiking on the Horseshoe Trail. While at camp the troop complet- ed the requirments for the Hiker and the Campcraft badges. The following girls and adults attended: Ann Eich- erly, Georgianne Wester- man, Beth Gainer, Wendy Correction Mount Joy Cub Scouts Pack 136 held the Pine Wood Derby at Beahm Junior High School. It was sponsored by Mummau’s Firestone. A trophy was awarded to David Nissley, first prize winner. Second prize was awarded to Tony Oxford and third prize to Wayne Bachter. Todd Good won the best of show. Reservations—898-8451 On Wednesday, March 16, 1977 the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) District S Competi- tion was held at Dauphin County Vocational Techni- cal School. Schools from 8 counties in PA were in- volved in the competition and the Opening and Clos- ing Ceremony Team. Ten Mount Joy Vo-Tech Graphics Arts students won awards in five categories of competition in the annual Susquehanna Litho Club Printing Contest. The awards were presented to the students at the Litho Club’s banquet held at the Mount Joy American Le- gion Hall, March 17th. Mitch Drace, a junior at Donegal High School and Bill Bitzer, a senior at Donegal High School won second place awards in single color. Jeff Alexander, a senior at Donegal High School won a second place award in four color process. Mr. Zerphey, the Grap- hic Arts instructor at the Mount Joy Vo-Tech, was the guest speaker for the Awards Banquet. His topic s ‘““Youth—A Long Run or a Short Run Product?” Pig and Rabbit Club meets by Bruce Sipling The Elizabethtown Pig and Rabbit Club had their first meeting of the year on Monday, March 28. The meeting started at 7:30 p.m., at Warren Heisey’s house. We elected the officers for the 4-H year. The offices are as follows: President-Stuart Heisey; vice-president-Bernie Gish; secretary-treasurer - Tom Baum; song leaders-Brian Ebersole and Stanley Heisey; reporter-Bruce Sip- ling; game leader-Barry Heisey and Scott Sipling and our county council representatives are Tom Baum and Bernie Gish. Our special guest for our first meeting was Jay Irwin. We talked about getting our projects and the people with pig projects should have their pigs on feed by May 1st.
