William Rider of Route 1, Mount Joy, Pa., has completed the Basic Assault Amphibian Crew- man’s Course. The seven-week skill training at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C., was designed to prepare him for assignment to a Marine assault amphi- bian unit. Assault amphi- bian vehicles are used to transport troops and sup- plies both from ship to Sue Phillips breaks beachhead and during sub- sequent operations ashore. He received intructions on the vehicle's capabilities and operating characteris- tics; participated in land and water driving exercis- es; and studied operator- level maintenance proce- dures. He is currently serving with the 2d Assault Am- phibian Battalion at Camp Lejeune. A 1976 graduate of Donegal Senior High School, he joined the Ma- rine Corps in August 1976. swimming record Susan Phillips, daughter of Roger and Audrey (nee Appley) Phillips, Birdsboro, and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar N. Appley, Marietta, set a new record in the 12 and under 50 yard breaststroke of 36.1. She was part of the medley relay team who also set a new record (2:12.2) in the Penn-Del Chanpionship on March Sth. She has been swimming with the Potts- town YMCA team for the last three years. Sue then went on to the Eastern District Champion- ship meet at Mercersburg Academy on March 19th. The team finished 4th with a time of 2:12.1, and Sue finished 9th in the breast- stroke in 36.798, which qualified her to swim in both events at the State YMCA Championship to be held in York on April 1st. Avery print show Prints in drypoint, litho- graph, linocut, and wood- cut by the internationally acclaimed artist, Milton Avery, will be on exhibit at the Community Gallery of Lancaster County starting April 3rd.
