February 23, 1977 Farm Women learn about Germany by Pauline E. Miller Farm Women’s Society #8 saw slides of Germany at their recent meeting February 19th, at 2 p.m. in the home of Patsy Warfel, West Main Street, Mount Joy. Fay Stoner of 1051 Eden Road, Lancaster, an Inter- national 4H Youth Ex- change student had the privilege of living with seven families in the farm- ing area of Denmark from mid June to December of last year. She learned the ways of living near Den- mark in the North, only three miles from the ocean. Wheat and rye are raised there, and she observed straw being baled and helped with the loading of it. Large German tractors are used. Ways of gathering grapes, grown on terraces of rocks, were seen. Sugar beets and hops are also grown. A famous castle and a cathedral of brick were of interest. A barge on the Rhine River, which flows through Cologne, was ob- served. Fay was in Bavaria and wore a dress styled like the traditional dresses worn in that area. The meting was in charge of Mrs. Kathryn Heisey, newly elected pres- ident of the Society. Anna Mae Eby led in the singing. Mrs. Phyllis End- slow read from Romans 13:1-6 and 1 Cor. 13 for devotions. Mary Grace Martin read the minutes and twenty-eight members gave brief reasons for attending Farm Women's Meetings in response to roll call. Mrs. Lilian Eby reported that seven members had been to the County Home in December. Mrs. Agnes Houseal and Margaret Heisey gave a condensed report of activities at the County Convention held Tuesday at Harrisburg. Shut-ins were mentioned and the treasurer’s report was given. This Society has received an invitation to be entertained by Society #20, at Quarrryville on April 7th. Hostesses providing col- orful seasonal refreshments for the social time were: Patsy Warfel, Helen Wiv- ell, Elizabeth Shuman and Ethel Herr. The next meet- ing will be held March 19th., 2p.m. at the home of Mrs. Viola Greider, Mount Joy, R#1. Mrs. Ralph Sensenig, police lady, will be Seesial Joes. tt strat rE SUSQUEHANNA TIMES - Page 7 WE REDEEM SEMI-BONELESS HAMS ~9%¢. 1 19 8 EITHER PORTION % STEAK SALE % SIRLOIN +] 49 =F ae. U.S. GOV'T.
