David E. Greer, 443 Revere Road, Lancaster, Pa. HERR, KIRCHNER, GREER & HERR N/ I NES NEAT 3 v en) TRY \ A A Ho NR Xi Donegal School Board | OKs garden on 441 The Community Action Program of Lancaster County (CAP) asked the Donegal School Board Thursday night for permis- sion to establish a com- munity garden on the grounds of the Riverview Elementary School on Route 441 in Marietta. CAP wants to organize a gardening program for el- derly residents of Marietta. The board approved a one-year agreement with CAP for the use of the land. In other business, the board rejected a grievance filed by the Donegal Edu- cation Association which charged that several teachers with master’s de- grees were not receiving the salaries specified in the current contract with the board. The Donegal Area Mid- get Football League asked the board about the cost of using a field at the senior high school for games. Lights, which are being funded with donations, are presently being installed at the field. The board informed the league that the base rental for the lighted field would be $100. Tentative dates for Summer basketball camp for junior and senior high school students were set. Boys® camp will run from June 20 to 24 and the girls camp from June 27 to July 1. The retirement of Mrs. Thelma E. Hoffman, a teacher at the Riverview school, was accepted. She has taught in the district for 10 years. The Donegal School Board decided to: Hire two (2) coaches serving as rotating member on the Athletic Council for discipline hearings. Suggested several dates, in March, for the annual Board Building Tour, to begin at the Grandview School at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and end at approxi- mately 4:15 p.m. Hire David Halbleib, reading teacher at Beahm Jr. High, to supervise early bus students each morning 7:30 a.m. to 8a.m. at $3.25 daily compensation. Saw a film on Resource Room Operation. The film was discussed, with the board members’ questions answered by Mrs. Pam (Kraus) Bucher, a teacher in the project. Mrs. Bucher said there are only three (3) rooms of its kind in the County and all three are in the city of Lancaster. The program deals, and with much success, accord- ing to Mrs. Bucher, with children who have learning difficulties as well as those students who are gifted. She said nine (9) excelling math students are pres- ently in the program. The program deals with the “*‘whole’’ child’’, rather than just certain areas of his development, Mrs. Bucher told the board. She invited the board members to visit the schools program at anytime.
