Making the housing pro- ject run will be even more difficult, however, Sauder reports. In contrast to city dwellers, the people of Ntondo are not salaried. Their income is largely seasonal from food that must be sold in the market in Mbandaka. Because they have no regular income, they will not be able to meet even the $16 monthly payments that would pay off a house in 20 years. In addition, the price of supplies continues to go up while the real value of the families’ monthly payments dimin- ishes because of inflation. Sauder is experimenting with ways of cutting con- struction costs, such as using wood shingles in- stead of tin roofing. As important as good low-cost housing is, it looks as if it will be difficult to manage without a great deal of continued outside assis- tance, according to Sauder. ler, sister of the bride, Barnesboro, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were: Carole B. Spangler, Char- Jeston, S.C.; Dr. Anne Kondor, York and M.S. Spangler, Manheim. Flow- er girl was Jennifer Lynne Spangler, Rohrerstown. Serving as best man was Raymond Knorr, Mount Joy. Ushers were: Jack H. Kirchoff, brother of the brids, Manheim; Stephen R. Spangler, son of the bride, Manheim; Michael D. Spangler, son of the bride, Charleston, S.C.; Gregory Kirchoff, Man- heim, and Dan W. Miller, Barnesboro. The couple will live at Manheim R7.
