At a Thursday night
bargaining session, teach-
ers won back the $4,400
in salaries, but accepted a
roughly equal loss in salary
protection insurance.
The new contract will not
become final until the
school board votes approval
at its next scheduled meet-
ing, November 18.
Under the agreement:
Most teachers will get a
$900 raise this year and a
$1000 raise next year.
Starting teachers will get
$8,200 this year. Starting
teachers who are hired next
year will get $8,700. The
old salary was $7,500.
Teachers with 1 year of
experience will get $8,800
this year. The old salary
was $8,400.
Teachers will also get
improved medical insur-
ance and retirement bene-
fits.
No non-economic items
are included in the pack-
age.
The agreement will not
pinch this year’s school
budget, board spokesmen
say. The effect on next
year’s milage, if any, will
depend on changes in state
funding regulations.
