Another area of prime concern deals with the financial difficulties en-° countered by the elderly living on fixed incomes and families with low incomes. Brandt strongly advocates legislation which will give tax relief to the elderly. Problems pertaining to the more industrialized ur- ban areas including the fair distribution of welfare mon- ies and programs, the flood prevention act and revision of the school code are just a few of the legislative issues which Brandt feels Mrs. Kenneth Brandt; Mrs. Miriam Hershey; Mrs. October 27, 1976 Stanley Wentzel; Mrs. Ronald Mable; Mrs. Richard Boyer; and Mrs. Dale Hoffer. photo by Tom Young Studio seeks another term are in need of further study and revision. Brandt has established a close working relationship with the local governments in his district often in an advisory capacity regarding the carrying out of new laws, the distribution of state money grants, etc. Brandt, who serves on the Law and Justice Com- mittee and the Agriculture Committee, has an impres- sive 98% voting record. He prides himself on his easy accessability and several of his constituents attest to the fact that ‘he’s around when you need him’ whe- ther it’s a lost birth certificate, a bill collector harrassing a 90 year old widow for delinquent taxes, a welfare check that got lost in the mail, or a complaint that a tree fell down across a state road he gives all the attention that each case requires. One of Brandt's most monumental achievements took place this year with the naming of the new intercounty bridge. He notes that the naming of the Wright's Ferry Bridge was (in his opinion) more difficult than the actual contruction of the bridge. A native of the Village of Falmouth, Ken Brandt was graduated from Elizabeth- town Area High School and soon -after entered the family business of A.F. Brandt’s Sons. He is married to the former Jean Marie Brandt and they are the parents of five children. An active community lead- er, Brandt served as both vice president and presi- dent of the Elizabethtown Jaycees and went on to serve for a time as National Jaycee Director.A member of the First Church of God (Elizabethtown)., Brandt also served on the Eliza- bethtown Area School Board. Having become in- creasingly concerned with the problems in local gov- ernment Brandt decided to take an active role in the area of lawmaking. Self-Breast exam film at Norlanco All women of childbear- ing age and beyond are invited to a film showing at Norlance Family Health Center, Monday, November 1,-at 7:30 p.m. The films, loaned by the American Cancer Society, are ‘‘Breast Self-Examina- tion” and ‘‘For A Wonder- ful Life.” ‘‘Breast Self-Examina- tion”’ describes this easily- learned technique, first as done by a doctor, then by the women performers. Following the film, a dem- onstration dummy will be available so that each person attending can try the technique under super- vision. “For A Wonderful Life” features a discussion of why the Pap Examination is necessary, shows how it is done, and what the laboratory results will indi- cate. Both films are short, allowing time for an in- formal discussion period. Babara Blouch, Physician's Assistant at Norlanco, will be on hand to answer any question that may arise from the films. Northwest Lancaster County Medical Association is sponsoring this event as a community health ser- vice. This same program will be repeated on De- cember 6 at Norlanco.
