Teachers,
board are
still
talking
DEA leaders made care-
ful preparations for a strike
before they walked into the
negotiating room Monday
night.
The teachers were pre-
pared to walk out Tuesday
if school board negotiators
flatly refused the union's
latest contract proposal.
The fact that classes
were held Tuesday may
mean that DEA negotiators
sensed some spirit of
compromis<. at the table.
No date has been set for
the next negotiating ses-
sion, but school officials
scem confident that talks
will continue as we go to
press Tuesday. At the neat
meeting, the board will
make a new offer.
