)76 August 18, 1976 Marietta Council appoints Hinkle; OK old Zion Church restoration Marietta Boro Council approved submitted plans for a one lot subdivision at the South West corner of route #441 and Bank Street at its Tuesday night ses- sion. Council also gave the green light to lease the Zion Church, Waterford Avenue, to the Marietta Restoration Associates. The structure was recently vacated by Marietta Assembly of God Church, which has relocated on route #141 and Oremine Road. A letter of thanks was read from the congre- gation. Patrick Kenney, Jr., spokesman for property owners on Essex Street, asked Council what was being done to correct drainage problems on that street. Recommendations from that group were for ballast and black topping be placed in the areas now dug up. Council President Oliver Overlander told Kenney that the job has béen prolonged due to the wet weather. ‘‘The grades”’ he said, ‘“‘will be hand raked, hand graded, and reseeded to give addition drainage.”’ Mayor Bernard McDevitt swore in John Hinkle, who was appointed to serve to Boro Council. He replaces Robert Long whose resign- ation was accepted earlier. Hinkle will complete the unexpired 3%2 year term. Council also voted to Dombach reunion to be held Sept. 5th The annual Dombach reunion will be held on Sunday, September 5, 1976 at the Central Manor Camp Meeting Grounds. All Dombach kin are urged to attend. Dinner will be at 12 noon, cafeteria style. Each family is asked to bring a covered dish, also each family’s own eating utensils. The younger generations are especially invited to attend. No parking will be permitted on the street for these two days, granted the Community Action Program use of the boro hall base- ment to conduct a canning project. The solicitor, Richard Umbenhauer, informed council it will be reim- bursed $1700. Blaze woke firemen at 4 A.M. Friendship Fire Co. No. 1, Mount Joy responded to 5 fire calls the first week of August. The first 2 calls came in Sunday, August 1, at 11:15 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. The automatic sprinkler system malfunctioned at Lancaster Leaf Warehouse. A tractor-trailer fire on Route 283 got firemen out of bed at 4:11 a.m., Thurs- day, August S. The fire was reported by a CB’er after the driver noticed flames between the tractor and trailer. When firemen arrived the tractor was completely involved. Fire- fighters extinquished the blaze with 9 gallons of foam. Estimated damage was $15,000.00. The de- partment was in service 1 hour and 34 minutes with 28 men responding. At 8:17 a.m. the same day firefighters extinquish- ed smouldering rags and The tractor-trailer was gutted by fire. tarps beside the tractor. Saturday, August 7 at 12:55 a.m., firemen re- sponded to a smoke-filled house at the Gingrich resi- dence on Longenecker Road.
