swim team wins meet

by Sandy Gingrich
Anyone who was a
spectator will agree that
this Mount Joy Swim Team
really got in there and
swam last Tuesday evening
against Willow Street. To
see our team come from
behind and in the breast

Marietta women take league lead
In Monday evening's
games, Farm Diner topped
Chapmans’ Apparel 15 to 1
with the outfielder, Deb
Berrier, batting 4 for 4 and
Sylvia Sumpman going 3
for 3 for Farm Diner.
Marietta beat E-Town Mer-
chants 13 to 9 in a well
fought contest. In the
Chiques/Heistand’s game,
Chiques came out on top
with a score of 6 to O.
Chique’s catcher, Barb
Hoover paced the hitting
department batting 4 for 4.
On Tuesday evening,
Heistand’s Chrys/Ply. took
their first win against
Chapmans’ Apparel, 19-9.
Heistands’ 28 hits included
3 triples and S doubles.
Also on Tuesday evening,
Mount Joy handed Farm
Diner their 2nd defeat this
season, knocking them out
of first place. It was a close
came, 7 to S and both
teams played a ‘‘tight
defensive game.”” Mount
Joy’s 2nd baseman, Vicki
Greiner hit a triple while
left fielder, Cheryl Krow

had a nice catch and throw
for a double play at 2nd.
Carol McKain had a catch
in center that would have
had to be seen to be
believed! Farm Diners, Bev
Kannegeiszer looked really
sharp on 2nd base, snag-
ging everything in sight.
Farm Diner out hit Mount
Joy 14 to 7, led by the
hitting power of Shirley
McLaughlin and Sylvia
Sumpman, both batting 3
for 4.
In the early game Thurs-
day evening, Marietta beat
Farm Diner, 10 to S sewing
up first place. Farm Diner
again out hit their
opponents 11 to 10 but
were unable to score those
‘““needed’’ runs. Marietta’s
team is made up of girls
aged from 1S to 19 and
with their coach on vaca-
tion, they did an excellent
job of coaching themselves.
In the late game, Mount
Joy topped Chiques 4 to 2
in a tight hard-fought
contest. Mount Joy’s Darla
Kelly hit a double and
