EASTER SUNRISE
SERVICE
by Stephen Getty
Many people in the
Mount Joy area have found
that a meaningful way to
begin Easter is by attending
the Community Easter Sun-
rise Service. Sponsored by
the Mount Joy Interchurch
Council, the service will be
held on Easter morning,
April 18, at 6 a.m., at the
Florin Church of the Breth-
ren. The message will be
delivered by the Rev. Robert
O. Hess, pastor of the
Chiques Church of the
Brethren in Manheim. The
theme of the message will
be “One Solitary Life...Re-
surrection!’’, and will be
based on the poem, ‘‘One
Solitary Life.”
Also sharing in the
service will be the Mount
Joy Community Chorus
singing ‘God So Loved The
World® by Stainer and
“King All Glorious’ by
Vail, a brass choir, a duet by
Miss Sandy Heisey and Mr.
Steve Smith, and other
community members.
You are invited to attend
the service and remain for
refreshments and a chance
to greet your neighbors.
The service is scheduled to
be held outside. In case of
inclement weather, it will be
held in the church sanctu-
ary.
“SOUNDS OF JOY**
ST. MARK’S CHURCH
Mary Ellen Kohler
Sixteen collegians from
Geneva College, Beaver
Falls, PA under the direc-
tion of Miss Sharon Givler,
performing as ‘‘Sounds of
Joy" will appear in concert
in the sanctuary of St.
Mark's United Methodist
Church, Mount Joy, on
Saturday evening, April
17th, at 7:30 p.m.
Since their beginning in
October 1975, this group has
been traveling and minister-
ing in churches throughout
the Western PA area.
Through song and testi-
mony their program depicts
the Christian life and re-
sponsibility to the Lord
Jesus Christ. Their unique
understanding of the pro-
blems and frustrations fac-
ing young and old alike
enables them to empathize
and suggest solutions to
those problems as they
share their faith. Their
purpose is to encourage,
uplift, and challenge their
hearers through contempor-
ary Christian music by such
composers as Andre Crouch,
Ralph Carmichael, and Kurt
Kaiser.
Families from St. Mark’s
Church will house the
members of the ensemble
overnight. The concert is
open to the public with a
special invitation extended
to the young people of the
area.

the upper room to Calvary.
Through the extinguishing
of candles and lowering of
lights, the congregation will
be reminded how, step by
step, the ‘‘Light of the
World” was slowly extin-
guishing until there was
darkness over all the earth.
The Tenebrae service will
utilize the reading of The
Passion Story of The Gospel
of Luke. This will be read in
