March 31, 1976 Sandy Heisey wins BPW honor The Mount Joy Business and Professional Women’s Club observed its 21st birthday for the March meeting. Dr. Simone J. Vincent, a professor at Millersville College, was guest speaker. Her topic was ‘‘Franklin and His Lady Friends.” The elderly statesman was the ambassador to France in the late 1700’s even though he was 70 years of age at the time. Franklin was ex- tremely popular with the ladies of Paris. The Rhythm Singers of Donegal High School pre- sented several selections accompanied by Mrs. Ro Ann Lau. Exerpts from “Mirth of a Nation”, (a Bicentennial production to be presented at Donegal on May 13 and 15) were also introduced. Special guests of the session were members of the Elizabethtown Club which initiated the local organization (Mother Club) and the original officers from 1955: Mrs. George ‘Broske, president; Mrs. Lester Roberts, vice-presi- dent; Mrs. Frank Eicherly, secretary; and Christine Graham, treasurer. Miss Carole Brubaker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brubaker, was introduced as girl of the month by Mrs. James Heilig, chairperson of the personal development committee. Mrs. Brubaker was also introduced. Mrs. Donald Drenner, chairperson of the music and social committee intro- duced the speaker and the entertainment for the even- ing and awarded flowers on the tables as door prizes. Mrs. Earl Koser, vice- president, conducted the business meeting. The group voted to raise the yearly dues to $20. Mrs. June Whalen reported on the hobby and craft show to be held May 22 and 23 at Donegal High School. The event will kick off Bicen- tennial week in Mount Joy. She presented ribbons to Miss Anna Mae Eby and Molly Hart as membership chairperson. The club now has 112 members. A speak-off for the pur- pose of selecting a Young Career Women to represent the Mount Joy club was held. Mrs. Darla Mason, chairperson of the Young Careerist Committee ex- plained the rules of the con- test and introduced the speakers: Miss Katherine Zeller, Mount Joy; Miss Naomi Myers,Columbia;and Mrs. Thomas Knorr, Eliza- bethtown. The topic for the competition was ‘‘Bicenten- nial Year - Where Do We Go From Here.”’ Sandy Heisey was declared the winner and will represent the Mount Joy BPW at the Spring District Meeting to be held at the Embers, Carlisle Pike, April 24th, and the State Convention to be held in Pittsburgh, in June.
