The Bicentennial Ball co-chairmen were Mrs. Carl R. Hallgren and Mrs. John Harnish. They were ably assisted by about 30 Joyceettes—and a lot of husbands, For a minute, it looked like a dangerous situation. While elegant citizens in ruffles and lace stared from their tables, a crowd of homespun, rednecked, rowdy Donegal Rangers charged into the dining hall. Brandishing their deadly Pennsylvania rifles, the Rangers marched up to Ben Franklin with a petition of grievances. There has been bad blood between the Rangers and Franklin ever since Franklin thwarted the Donegaler’s attempt to invade Philadelphia in pre-revolutionary days. Costume prize-winners take a bow.
