More than S50 parents
crowded into the Donegal
"High School library last
Wednesday, January 28,
1976 te suppeort the Special
Reading program in the
Donegal Elementary
Scheels. Twice a year, the
district holds Parent Ad-
visory Ceuncil meetings for
the federally funded ESEA
Title I program.
Any interested parent
may attend meetings and
serve on the council as long
as the majority of parents
are parents of children
participating in the pro-
gram.
Mr. John Sauter, director
of Elementary Education,
gave a brief history of the
program and led a dis-
cussion concerning parent’s
suggestions and reactions.
Parent after parent gave
testimony to the noticeable
positive results of the
program. Some said their
children had better attitudes
and felt more secure work-
ing in small groups.
Some emphasized the
importance of reading in
everyday life. One said her
son now falls asleep with a
book. All said their children
could read better after
getting the special instruc-
tion.
Mrs. Linda Boozer, read-
ing supervisor, ended the
meeting with a video-tape
presentation showing the
four ESEA Title 1 teachers at
werk in their classrooms.
