Page 2 - SUSQUEHANNA TIMES Columbia fire company is host to 13 companies from district by William E. Martin Tuesday, January 22 at 8:00 PM, Zone 7 firemen met at Susquehanna Fire Company in Columbia. Forty-two members were present from 13 fire depart- ments. Zone 7 Fire Marshal, John Geltmacher, reported one investigation for Janu- ary. The investigation was in Marietta January 17, where a six year-old boy playing with matches start- ed a house fire. Geltmacher alsc gave his year end report. Highlights included twenty-twe investigations for 1975. Major causes of the fires investigated were faulty electrical wiring and children playing with matches. Twe civilians and twenty-two firemen were injured in 1978S. Don Bachman talked on smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. Paul Knier, County Fire Marshal, re- ported en county fires for 1975. Seven lives were lost in fires last year. There were 773 more fires in 1975 and 201 more false alarms. Knier noted that people are trying to put the fire out before the fire department is called. This is a bad practice in that time is wasted and more damage usually results in fires. The officers for 1976 were installed. They are: President, John Lutz, Florin; First Vice-President, Tim Deeg, Jr., Vigilant; Second Vice-President, A. Jay Shank, Elizabethtown; Third Vice-President, Mike Brooks, Mountville; Fourth Vice-President, Tom Mimnall, Vigilant; Secre- tary, Dwayne Charles, Silver Springs; Assistant Secretary, Don Snyder, Mount Joy; Treasurer, Dean Gantz, Sr., Ironville; Assist- ant Treasurer, Earl Fuhrman, Bainbridge; Fire Marshal, John Geltmacher, Florin; Trustees, One Year- Ben Soult, Florin; Two Years-Harcld Sangrey, Washington Boro; three years-Eugene Altland, Forest Fire Crew. Zone 7 firemen reported thirty-two fire calls, one hundred nineteen ambu- lance calls, two false alarms and one rescue call for January. A film entitled ‘‘Where is the Water’’ was shown. The meeting was adjoun- ed at 9:15 PM with a rising vote of thanks to the host company. The next Zone 7 meeting will be held at Elizabeth- town in their new fire hall.
