We thank them and hope they keep coming."’ Some of the Donegal basketball players have al- ready been approached by college talent scouts. The prospect of athletic scholarships for Donegal basketball players makes Coach Swift even happier than his perfect record in league basketball. There is a practical side to the game of basketball, even for atheletes who lack scholarships, according to Swift. *“I think the game teaches kids about life,”” he says. “You have to play by the rules. .You learn what you can do under pressure, and yeu have to work hard for what you get.”’ “If you play the game clean and fair, and put a lot of effort into it, you'll get: something out of it.” Coach Swift has nothing but praise for his team. “They're clean-cut, they're gentlemen, and they always do their best,’’ he says. Pequea Valley got a 33-15 thrashing from the Indians, and Lancaster Catholic went down by a 27-24 score. The match with Lancaster Catholic saw a couple of upsets. Adams, in his first win for the Indians, deci- sioned the previously un- beaten Tom Anater 10-7. Howell pinned L.C.’s How- enwaiter in 1:53. Other Indian pins were scored by Gainer (5:16), Bishop (3:29) and Howell (1:53). Decisions went to Meszaros (4-0), Mull (10-4) and Mohr (6-0). In the Pequea Valley match, pins were scored by Clay Brandt, Tim Howell McComsey. Decisions were won by Garner (1-0), Mohr (3-0) and Ruhl (8-2). ‘ Donegal, undefeated in league matches, is now in a 3 way tie for the top position in Section 2. The other contenders are Annville-Clecna and Penn Manor. Bob Bishop, and Bob Indians leave 2 teams in dust The DHS basketball team overran E-town 78-58, and massacred Pequea Valley 96-63. The Indians are now 6-0 in league basketball, with no competition for the title in sight. Donegal’s John Fellenbaum kept the net dancing at Pequea, scoring 3S pionts for DHS. Barto and Miller scored 16 each, McCue 10, McKercher 8, Milligan 4, Bradley 4, and Weber 2. The Donegal JVs lost 54-57. Kevin Miller was the hottest of the Indian hot shots at the E-town game. He sank 18 points for DHS. Bob Barto and Kevin Bradley added 1S points each. Fellenbaum scored 12, «> » © oF McKercher 9, Weber 6, and Milligan 3. The halftime score was only 34-30 in Donegal’s favor, but the Indians outscored their opponents 44-28 in the second half. The JVs also won, 47-41.
