Connty state- ueiit and election proclamation ohargid by tbe uion. I. B. Van rum, PcburHKR. We glva considerable space tli week to article from Hon. 11 L. Burnett, candidate for Senator, ex plaining bis position and giving reasons why ha Is compelled to oak the good (traces 0f a Republican pa per to place bis case before the co pie. Having been denied the priv Hedge by tha ho called democratic organ here he fejls that in justice to himself and hU friends his side of the matter ghould .be presented. People like fair play and when it not accorded a candidate for nom ination by the organ of his party he is Justified in using any respecta ble method to put before thatn the true situation. We are not oritlcising tbe organ. Its editor haa bis reasons no doubt for the course it takes, whether they are proper is for voter to Judge. It dees not seem however, that unlcs they are very strong reasons and founded on sufficient grounds, ai d those grounds fully explained, so Unit voters may consider their propriety, that a party organ should discrlm inate between candidates in its own party. When it does without stat ing the moving oaase it ceases to be a party organ and becomes the adherent and advocate of a factiin. This Ib not true democracy . nor is it party righteousness Such action narrows its usefulness and prooiuims it a partisan within ita own party. You may or may not be a support - er of Mr. Burnett but you must ad mit that be has a right to have bis case presented to tbe people. If the 'organ" gives him the "marble touch" it may take the same course with any candidate of its own par ty and you may be Us next victim. Do you desire to lend your aid and give support to a so-called "party organ" which may use its Influence whatever it may be, in thwarting - your right to appeal to voters should you be' a candidate.
