County Nile nient anil election proclamation clmririil by the square. J. H. Van Etten, PliBUMlKli, Mllford, Pike County, Pa. As shown by the returns Hon. C B. Staples is elected President Judpe of this district MR. STAPLES ELECTED Iluliaathe ability legal Attainments and force of character requisite to make an excellent officer. The position is one ot responsibility and dignity, and we have no doubt Mr, Staples will nse his utmost endeavor to maintain the high standard at tained by those illustrious jurists who have preceded here on our bench. In this effort he will doubt less have the loyal support of ull thoie who desire that' the fountain of justice should be uneontamlnated by prejudice or partisanship. The excellent report of the teach ers institute held here last week was kindly furnished by Prof. Houck of the Matamoras High School. It will be appreciated by all who desire a full memorandum of the lectures for future reference. The Kickeroa of Monroe county did well and wisely not to exhaust their hot air here. The blighting effect of their simooms seems to have almost entirely withered their party at home. The democratic party Is pretty longh, but It looks as though a few more doses in this district adminis tored by its doctors would be follow ed by a first class funeral. In this district the domocratshave good reason to think that doubtful things are mighty uncertain. The spot remains green, but the color seems to ho rapidly peeling. The Bevant Murder -There are no new developments In the Bevans murder case Sinoe the arrest of George Jaggers numer ous stories have been circulated con cerning his antecedents, which, how ever true, should not convict him ol this offense. Whatever faats, it any, the sheriff and prosecutor may possess connecting him with the nhooting they are keeping them to -themselves, which is proper. It is hardly fair to attempt to create o prejudice in the oommuuity against any one charged with an offense by recounting sensational stories which may or may not be true. Every one is presumed innocent until he is convicted. Mr. Staples Elected Hon. C. B. staples was elected President Judgd of thij district Tuesday, defeating Hon. W A. Erduian by a comparatively small jimjurity. The voto in Monroe was, Staples 2,2, Enlman 2,013, btup'es major ity, 2117. Iu Tike Staples' majority whs 411, nmking his majority iu the district E1S.
