J. n. Tan Ettcn, PUBLISHER, Mllford, Pike County, Pa. THE ELECTION. Election occurs next Tuesday and while Hie strife is not great here, in certain sections notably Philadel phia and some of the largor olties the campaign is being bitterly wag. ed. It is problematical what effect the fusion ticket will bare on the republican vote. Many and bitter things have been said of the regular republican nominees for supreme court judge and state treasurer, end their merits have also been well ad vocated. Voters will by this time have conoluded whether it is best to attempt a reform by going outside the regular ticket or whether an equally good result can be soenred by remaining within the lines. We have a county ticket which will commend itself to all voters and shonld command the undivided support of all who are attached to the principles of the party. DISAPPOINTED COLD SEEKERS. Tho past season at Nome has been delusive and the thousands who went out in the spring hoping to reap a rich harvest are returning filled with disappointment and much poorer than they were. That coun try has proven to be praotlcally a failure as a wealth -produoing seo tlon, yet notwithstanding past ex periences numbers aonbtless will next year spend their substanoe and endure the hardships incident in the hope of reaping a golden reward. If those same people would use their means here directed by an equal energy expended In tho fruitless search for hidden wealth they would reap substantial reward be sides benefitting the communities in which they dwell. Going to Nome is a waste of' time, money and strength. It will be a good time during the coming winter for the ladies of Mil ford irrespective of their politics or religion to canvass the matter of a village improvement society. There are a number of handsome homes in town, and the place is improving in its general appearance and attract iveness, but the streets often pre sent an untidy aspect. If the ladies organized and determined that this should be remedied they could greatly aid in the matter. They are more eutlietio than mon, and should they lend their voice and make a little exertion in the direction of a general beautifying of the village the effort would soon be apparent, and the result appreciated by every body. Who will take the initiative? In the Republican column under the title, "Associate Judge," it says, "Mark Two," but the voter need not vote for more than one. Tho direction means ouly tlmt the voter may vote for two if he so desires, as two judges ara to be elected. It will be sufficient for all who desire the succors of the republican ticket to vote Marvin alone. Thomas Gibbons, who was charged with threats against A. J. Nyce, did not appear last wook when culled and his boudfinan, E. Vandermark, learning be was iu New York, went down this week, found bis man, brought him liere and now Thomas is being fed at the couity's expense. Today take Foley's Honey and Tar.
