Van Sickle at Lnyton. . I notice that (orrrspoTulcnts hail ing fiom Milford, intinuite that the recent smash up in which Il.iines- ville pnrticsi figured wna not endod and that something terrible was 3-et to happen. If I am correctly in formed the other pnrties were not attending to their business or the smash would not have happened. Give ns a rest on "smash np." B. D. Hnrsh, mnnager of the Strondsburg telephone company spent last Sunday with his parents at Lnyton. Ben got caught on a railroad bridge and hnd to run for his life. Luckily he was fleet enough to escape )eing hit- by the engine, but got a tumble bruising him np a little. He can thank his lucky stars thnt that bridge was no longer. I referred to whisky not paid for, but sold and drunk nnd the seller dared not take pay for the whisky, and the p it-chaser is just that much n pocket and is accordingly happy over the result. But how about tot her feller." The recent rains havo washed our roads and in many places they are very rough ; add to that the loose stone that should hav3 been thrown out that are entirely too numerous for comfort. This is especially the from Lnyton to the Montague case lino. - Dr. Hughes and wife returned mine on Saturday after an outing of nearly a month. They were at Ocean (frove, N. J., Elmira, N. Y., and other points. I notice a little paragraph in the Port Jervis Gazette of the 110th inst. which I think could be made upplieable in Jersey. The article is as loltows: "The truant oiheer of the Florida, Oranage county, public school on a recent Monday arrested 1G persons, parents of children, who violated the school law by allowing their children to remain away from school." They were fined (3 each and $1 and $5 were added to the fines of some offenders who "snssed" the court. I think we have a similar law, but no one has the nerve to en force the law, as did the Florida of ficial. As the law now is, it is very essential that all pupils attend school and where they do not attend Just "jerk" them once and the non attend ance is at an end. Little Frank McKeeby remains alxiut the same if anything slightly improved. Miss Katie Kintner is so much better as to be able to go out of doors. Mrs. Sue D. Myers, who has been confined to her bed for the last month, is critically ill at this writing. For the past mouth the mail from Branchville A Flatbrookville did not connect at Layton, On Monday the post office department ordered the Branchville mail to leave that place at 12 noon and the Flatbrookville mail to leave Layton at 2.15 p. in., so there is a possibility of connection now. Heretofore it was impossible to make connection. William Titman of Layton has purchased the Hotel of John A. Westbrook at Bevans, paying there for $2,100. Mr. Westbrook has been iu the hotel business for twenty-one years and now that the infirmities of age begin to be felt by himself and his estimable helpmeet, helms decided to relinquish the business. I think I am safe in saying that few hotels in Sussex county have more closely com plied with the requirements of the law than this presided over by John A., and as for his culinary depart ment, the drummers can tell you all al)out that, for nearly all them make John's their stopping place. Johns and DeVoes paints at W. G. Mitchells. & "About I year ago my hair was coming out very fast, so I bought bottle of Ayer's Hair Vigor. It stopped the falling and made my hair grow very rapidly, until now it is 45 inches in length." Mr. A. Boydston, Atchison, Kans. There's another hunger than that of the stomach. Hair hunger, for instance. Hungry hair needs food, neeus hair vigor Ayer's. This Is why we say that Ayer's Hair Visor always restores color, and makes the hair grow long and heavy. $i.m a wtn.. au 4mUiiu.
