Clark Bradshaw, one of our boys win) went west two or throe years ago, does not let any grass grow under his feet or any moss on his back. When a youth here he did not waste his days sampling beer around saloons and having a howl ii 4 good time. Ha attended to busi ness and laid the foundations for success and nosv he is the owner of n ranch and Is building himself a new house. It is gratifying to know that be, with a few other boys who have gone from here, is meeting with success in his far away homo. A right start and careful attention to the interests of employers is bound to win advancement. S une very mysterious fires have started in this locality recently. Reports from the bill say that tree girdling and some general vandal ism is being perpetrated. David Cron, who was injured while working the roads some two weeks ago, is able to bo out again. Our Sunday schools accomplish little good if some of the leading boys as soon as loosed from their mothers' apron strings seek evil company and allow themselves to be dragged down to a corrupt level. When building a concrete wall it is well not to be in too great hurry and to allow it become dry. A wall here crumbled recently after a two story frame was put on it. Our schools are closing earlier than usual thus making tho vacation pretty long. The social at Joseph C. Warner's hist Thursday evening was one of the most enjoyable of the season, and every one attending claimed to have had a good time. The dog that killed so may of John Snider's Belgian hares happened to come back and succeeded in killing some more, but John was on the look out and that dog wont kill any more of John's pets. A load of shot prop erly placed did the business. Frank Stoll of "Alsneiti Farm" presented the writer with a flue lot of radishes on Thursday and has had lettuce for sometime. This beats any garden around here or anywhere in the valley for that matter. The method adopted by the state board of education to secure the exact number of pupils attending school has one drawback. In many instances pupils of one school have changed to another, and, of course, are counted twice. I think there is a law cover ing this M)iiit, but it is seldom obeyed. Levi Kllett's horse which was taken sick at Branchville some days ago is improving and hopes are now had that the animal wil recover, although he is far from well yet. The creamery receipts are steadily increasing, and I hear of others who will take their milk there, so tlie prospects are becoming brighter for its success. Now is the time while it is in operation to endeavor to make a success of it, and those in tending to patronize it should do so at once. The cold wot weather of tho past week has beon a hindrance to onr farmers, The majority of thorn have their oats sowed and are busy preparing their gardens and their oorn ground. A slight frost has been observed by some o' onr "early risers" several times the past week but no damage has beon done thus far to our fruits and early crops. While leading a young colt to pnsture last week, Henry Gamble received a rather painful injury. The colt he was loading became frightened and Henry in trying to recover his balance was jorked violently backwards. Dr. Plum of Hawley was called and pronounced severe internal injuries. At Inst reports he was on the road to rapid recovery. C. (J. Gumble has been confined to the bouse for the pnst week with a badly swollen hand, the result of a .lijJih,, accident to one of his fingers. Blood poison set in and the slight injury, as ho thought, became an exceedingly painful and serious one. Dr. Rodman is in at tendance and at last reports the patient was improving. Signor of Arling- ton conducted services at the White school house last Friday evening. There will bo services every two weeks at the above mentioned place the weather permitting. B. F. Killam is rebuilding a por tion of his house. His local court house is Hearing completion and in the future those who seek legal knowledge will find him able and willing to adjust all-difficulties. We are in hopes of soon boing able to talk to our Hawley friends over oar new telephone.
