A novel idea baa been doveloped in tbe building of a boat propollod in tbe same manner as a bicycle. Tbe tandem rests on two oak braces, sprocket wheels and pedals identi cal with a bicycle are affixed and connected with a chain to a shaft on which is a cog wheel, which in turn fits on a smaller one on the shaft that turns the propellor. Mrs. Ellen S., wife of Abram Decker, of Port Jervis, died Inst Saturday afternoon at the home of her sister, Mrs. John Fuller, in this borough where she was visiting. Some time ago she wns operated on for cancer and from which she did not fully recover. She wns ngod 58 years and is survived byhor husband, three sons, Cyrus, of Hawley ; Solo mon.of Wilaonvillo,Pa.,and William and three daughters. Emma Frich- loch, of New York ; Mattie Meln- earny, of Muncey. Ind., and Annie Brink, of Tioga, N. Y. She has also besides, Mrs. Fuller, a sister, Mrs. Nancy Hickman, of Brooklyn, N. Y. The immediate cause of death was pneumonia resulting from falling asleep in the open air. GEORGE OWENS. George Owens an adult died at the homo of his mother in this Borough on Friday June 5th. As a sketch ar tist in the concert he showed amaz ing powers of characterization. Charles Lee the young bare back rid er was fully at homo on the noble equine, and displayed a masterful grnceand skill. Jess Bullick, the black face comedian, reminded us of the old times of minstrelsy and was mirth provoking and happy. Capt. Porier ns a four horse rider displayed mnrked talents as an equestrian. Zellers triple bar per formance wns the delight nnd won der of tho audience. During the en tire show Prof. Jones' Military band discoursed exeellont music, while the ring mnfeter, Joe Huett in his role was inimitable, nnd fully up to the standard in that difficult position A. J. Anderson also displayed rare talent in the same situation, and on the whole it would seem invidious to particularise for the whole troupe, including Mucin ma Valita the mind reader whose wonderful powers were the astonishment of all, took their parts with enso and grace. The ponies nmusod nnd delighted the crowd, and really demonstrated that animals haverin intelligence beyond our ken. A society event occurred in Port Jervis on Tuesday, June 9th, when Miss Emma Isadore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Wells wns united in mnrringe to Rov. The ceremony took place in the First Baptist Church of Port Jervis in the presence of 400 relntives nnd friends nnd wns performed by Rev. S. Washington, assisted by Rev. John H. Raven, of Metuchon, N. J. The church was handsomely decor- nted, the costumes elegant nnd the whole affair of launching the happy couple in the barque of mnrried bliss passed off smoothly. The campaign was a cost ly one, the amounts exjxmded by the combined candidates being es timated from $20,000 to $30,000. In Luzerne county the chairman of the Republican Committee calls attention to the fact that all candi dates for nomination are required to sign an agreement not to nse money corruptly in the nominating conven tions. Henry Houck who is trying to se cure the support of Lebanon county for the congressional nomination in the 14 district says his candidacy is not in the interest of M. E. Olm stoad of Dauphin. Sudden Disappearance. The people of Deckertown, N. J., are greatly excited over the nnao countablo and sudden disappear ance of Mrs. B. D. Howell and her daughter Mollle. They left their beautiful home on Monday night tramped across the mountain to Port Jervis and it is supposed took a train at that place for Michigan. The cause is believed to be domestic dif ficulties, arising from the actions of the husband B. D. Howell. It is re ported tha t he had some misunder standing with his son Jam es B. and he with his wife who was Miss Mary Loomis left the house, fearing that they might sustain personal Injur ies. The father had been partaking freely of late of that fluid indigenous to Jersey soil and the family know ing its effects foresaw probable great danger, and during his abscence the wife and daughter betook themsel ves away. The family is highly re spected and connected, and Mr. Howell has been accounted an intel ligent orderly and successful man, but what Jersey lightning wont do the devil can't. He reports sales of car riages and pleasure wagons slow the bicycle has superseded them. He is working at a horseless wagon and says that it is only a question of a year or two when these vehicles will be in common use on the roads. has already spent many hundred dollars in experimenting, but finds at each trial some important factor needs perfecting.' The expense for motive power will be about one mill per mile or about one cent from here to Dingmans. Martha Whlttaker Free. At the recent sitting of the Court at Goshen, N. Y.,a bill of indict ment was presented against Mrs. Whittaker charging her with having in March last administered Rough on Rats to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Snyder from the effects of which they died. The coroner's Jur ies rendered verdicts in one of which she was "suspicioned" and on this the indictment was based. The Grand Jury failed to find a bill and she was discharged from custody last Monday, and returned to Port Jervis. She will now vigorously press the proceeding instituted to set aside her mother's will which des- inherited her. Fresh Kiln of Lime For Sale.
