He was born on March 30, 1978, in Bloomsburg and was em- ployed in construction. Surviving are his father, Steven Dzoch, Hunlock Creek; his wife, the former Heidi Hess; daugh- ters, Sierra and Makayla, at home; sister, Tanya Farber, Hun- lock Creek; a niece and a nephew. ECKERT - Roy “Sid” Sidney Eckert, 73, died on Saturday, De- cember 17, 2011, at home. He was born on February 25, 1938, in Lock Haven, was a gradu- ate of LaSalle High School, Niag- ara Falls, N.Y. and attended Lock Haven State College and the Uni- versity of Buffalo. He retired from International Paper in Lock Haven. He was a veteran who served in the Marine Corps and Army reserves. He was a member of the Welsh Bethel Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon. Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Beth; his children, Jody Hartsfield, Cris Martin, Howard Scott Piatt and Cindy Rhoades; seven grandchildren; one great- grandson; brothers, Stanley and Chris; and stepsister, Vicki Egli. EVANS - David A. Jr, 81, of Hunlock Creek, died on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, in Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre. He was born in Wilkes-Barre on August 26, 1930, and retired after 43 years of service from Coon Construction, where he su- pervised many of the bridge pro- jects in our community. He was also a licensed surveyor. He was a member of Sweet Val- ley Church of Christ for more than 35 years where he served as an elder and was a member of the choir. He also played on the church softball team for many years, retiring at age 70. He was also a member of Sylva- nia Lodge No. 354 F & AM, Shickshinny, where he served as Past Master. He was born in Forty Fort and was a graduate of Forty Fort High School, Penn State University and Dickinson School of Law. Pri- or to retirement, he was a career attorney with the Internal Reve- nue Service. Professionally, he was a mem- ber of the Luzerne County Bar Association and the Pennsylva- nia Bar Association. He was a member of St. Therese’s Church, Shavertown, and Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish, Flor- ida. Powell, 81, of Idetown Road, Dallas, died on Friday, December 9, 2011, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He was born in Wanamie and graduated from Newport High School, class of 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during the Ko- rean Conflict. He had resided on Idetown Road in Dallas for the past 56 years. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a salesman for Whiteman Tower Paper Co. Ear- lier, he was employed by Zoeller Paper Company. He was a 50-year member of Idetown United Methodist Church, was past president of the Lehman Fire Company and was active with the Irem Temple for 50 years, serving as Potentate in 1983. He was Captain of the Arab Emeritus Patrol for many years and was a member of George M. Dallas Lodge No. 531 F&AM and Caldwell Consistory, Blooms- burg. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, the former Dorothy Ogin; sister, Barbara Haydock, Alden; nieces and nephews. RODDA -Stella, 79, of Hunlock Creek, died Saturday, December 17, 2011, in Wilkes Barre General Hospital. She was born June 6, 1932, in Larksville, and was formerly em- ployed by Wilkes University. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, was a graduate of Lake-Lehman High School and attended Penn State University, Lehman. She al- so attended Luzerne County Community College and later Bryn Mawr and Misericordia University. She earned a duel Master’s Degree in Social Work. She was the Director of Fur- ther Education at Misericordia. She had started the AIDS Council of Wyoming Valley and later worked with Volunteers of America in adoptions, helping families with children from Rus- sia. She had worked with The Insti- tute of Human Resources until November 2010.
