The annual Run for the Fallen, initiated after Lt. Cleary’s death, was held on Au- gust 17 at Penn State Wilkes- Barre. All proceeds benefit the 1st Lt. Michael J. Cleary Memo- rial Fund, Wounded Warrior Pro- ject, Yellow Ribbon Fund, Gold Star Family Support Center and Dallas Track and Cross Country. A group of Cleary’s friends led the first National Run for the Fall- en, a memorial run across the United States, on June 14, 2008. Participants ran one mile dedi- cated to each soldier who died fighting in Operation Iraqi Free- dom and Enduring Freedom, leaving a memorial placard and an American flag for each soldier. That same year, a group of Dal- las Senior High School students held their own local Run for the Fallen, a 5K event to commemo- rate 1st Lt. Cleary and all soldiers who died during the conflict. Tencza preparing to perform in London Samantha Tencza, a sopho- more at Dallas High School, is one of more than 500 high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the United States who will perform in the world famous London New Year’s Day Parade. Tencza is coached by Suzanne Powell of Dallas. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Jaime Sorber, of Dallas, and Brian and Erica Demchak, of Ashley. She is the granddaughter of Pat and Ed Tencza, of Hanover Town- ship, and Mary and Ron Dem- chak, of Plymouth Twp. She has five brothers, CJ, Jake, Brandan, Jaime and Kyle. The individuals invited to perform in the parade qualified for the trip after being selected as All-Americans at one of the summer camps hosted by Uni- versal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), National Cheerleaders Association (NCA), United Spir- it Association (USA), Universal Dance Association (UDA) and National Dance Alliance (NDA). All-Americans are selected to try out based on superior cheer- leading skills at camps across the country. Junior Mounts D team rushes to 24-0 victory The Dallas Junior Mounts D Team rolled over the defending Super Bowl runner-up Back Mountain Bobcats, 24-0, on Au- gust 21, scoring a touchdown on the first play of the game and nev- er looking back. Aided by a stingy defense, Dal- las scored three touchdowns and three 2-point conversions. Dallas consistently matriculated the ball down the field with runnin backs Jared Adamski, Mitchell Burgess, Ayden Berndt and Lu- cas Shultz sharing the ball carry- ing duties. The offensive line, consisting of Junior Atherholt, Mason Cal- vey, Parker Bolesta, Nick Spen- cer, Joe “The Missle” Peters, Nick Fine and Mark Karcutskie opened holes all day. The defensive line, led by Ryan Cuba, Colby Kleintob, Ga- vin Adamski, Brady Eggelston and Pete Federici were in the Bobcats’ backfield, repeatedly making plays.
