She was born October 22, 1975, was a graduate of Cough- lin High School and Luzerne County Community College. She was employed as a regis- tered nurse for the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton. Surviving are her father, Paul Dinan, of Wilkes-Barre; her children, Jillian Myers and Paul McAffey; maternal grandmoth- er, Florence Pawlowski; and paternal grandmother, Jean Di- nan, both of Wilkes-Barre. DURKIN - James J. Jr., 73, of Dallas, died Wednesday, Au- gust 17, 2011, at his home. He was born in Danville on July 10, 1938, was a graduate of the Blair Academy Preparatory School, Blairstown, N.J., and the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va., where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi national fraternity. He went on to study business law at the University of Miami, Miami, Fla. After graduation, he worked and managed vari- ous family businesses. He began his career as vice president of Great West Coal Sales in New York City; served as president of National Diver- sified Industries, a public cor- poration with holdings in Tex- as, Louisiana and Florida; served as vice president and manager of Pocono Downs Racetrack from its inaugural season; and then vice president and general manager of Sham- rock Racing Association until 1973. He currently served as president of Mountain Top An- thracite Inc. He was a past member of the U.S. Trotting Association, the American Racing Association and a member of the American Waterworks Association, where he served on its stan- dards commission. He was a member of The Westmoreland Club, Wilkes-Barre; and the Palm Beach Polo Club, Wel- lington, Fla. He raced both Thorough- breds and Standardbreds for nearly three decades. He was a member of Huntsville Golf Club, a past member of Wyom- ing Valley Country Club and a member of St. Stephen’s Epis- copal Church, Wilkes-Barre. Surviving are his wife, Jeanne McLaughlin Durkin, Dallas; daughter, Deborah Ed- mondson Durkin Graham, Sha- vertown; sons, James J. III, Dal- las; and Robert McLaughlin, West Palm Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren; brother, Edward Edmondson, Wellington, Fla; sisters, Carol Weaver Bevevino, Dallas; and Barbara Durkin Kirmse, Westhampton Beach, NY. and North Palm Beach, Fla.; an aunt, nieces and neph- ews. KEITHLINE - Sarah E., of McMullian Hill Road, Tunk- hannock, died Wednesday, Au- gust 17, 2011, at the Golden Liv- ing Center, Tunkhannock. She was born on Golden Hill, Wyoming County, on April 21, 1924, was a 1942 graduate of Laceyville High School and was a member of the Eatonville United Methodist Church. Surviving are sons, Carl, of Sebastian, Fla.; and Roger, of Tunkhannock; daughter, Ar- lene Osborn of Fayette, Tenn.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. RACE - Lawrence E., 92, of Noxen, died Monday, February 14, 2011, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He was born October 6, 1918, in Kingston, graduated from Noxen High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. ROOT - Floyd R., 69, of Nox- en, died Thursday, August 18, 2011, at his home. He was born in Beaumont, was a 1961 graduate of the Tunkhannock Area High School and was employed by Commonwealth Telephone Co. for 37 years, retiring in 2002. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post 967, Harveys Lake; and Post 154, Montrose. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and the American Riders Association. Surviving are a son, Russell, at home; a sister, Hilda Ann Stetser, Dallas. Memorial donations to the Kunkle Fire Department, Route 309 and Kunkle Road, Dallas, PA 18644.
