The Misericordia University Government, Law and National Security (GLNS) Program is presenting the interactive pro- gram, “9/11: Freedom, Security and Life in America 10 Years Later,” a 9/11 anniversary roundtable discussion featuring Keith Martin, former director and senior advisor to the gover- nor for Pennsylvania Homeland Security, and the video, “I'll Al- ways Remember,” a retrospec- tive on the events of Sept. 11, 2001. The public is invited to par- ticipate in the discussion, which will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7 in Dudrick and Muth Rooms 216-217 in Sandy and Marlene Insalaco Host and moderator for the event will be historian and Con- stitutional scholar Brian F. Car- so, J.D., Ph.D., assistant profes- sor of history and director of the GLNS program. The video, “I'll Always Re- member,” was produced and di- rected by Dr. Tony and Kitch Mussari. It offers a retrospec- tive on the events of Sept. 11, 2001, including the al-Qaeda terrorist airplane attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, N.Y., and the Penta- gon in Washington, D.C., and the downing of Flight 93 in Shanksville. The moving pictorial features Jo Ann Bivino’s song, “I'll Al- ways Remember.” The Mussa- ris are well known for their tele- vision series, “Windsor Park Stories,” and they have pro- duced documentaries about Sept. 11 for 10 years. Martin served as a commis- sioned officer in the Army, Ar- my Reserve and Pennsylvania National Guard for 34 years. His service included a combat tour as an infantry lieutenant in 1969-70 in Vietnam and Cambo- dia with the 1st and 25th Infan- try Divisions. He retired at the federal rank of colonel with the promotion to brigadier general on the state retired list upon his retirement. In February 2003, Martin was appointed by then Gov. Ed Ren- dell to serve as Pennsylvania’s Director of Homeland Security. He was charged with coordinat- ing the all-hazards prevention, preparation and response activ- ities of all state agencies. A native of Scranton and a graduate of Lafayette College, Martin is well known in North- eastern Pennsylvania for a tele- vision news career that spanned more than three decades, in- cluding positions as news an- chor at both WBRE-TV and WDAU-TV in the Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton area and at WGAL-TV in Lancaster.
