Holdredge lifts BMT American to section title hey may have had to wait through a rain delay and play for eight innings, but members of the Back Mountain American 10-11 year old Little League All Stars had plenty to celebrate when they defeated Mountain Top, 7-6, for the Section 5 champion- ship last Tuesday. For the second time in two games, Josh Holdredge delivered the walk-off, game-winning hit. It may not have been as dramatic as his homer that secured American’s 65-win over Mountain Top two days earlier, but it was just as effective. Holdredge grounded a one-out single up the middle to score Jared Schuster from third; Sénding American to the state playoffs this week- end in Labrobe. It was the third time in the tournament an American vs. Mountain Top game was decided by one run. And it appeared in the seventh that Mountain Top might be the team going home with the victory. It loaded the bases with no outs, but relief pitcher Schuster worked out of the jam. American cut one runner down at the plate before Schuster recorded a strikeout and fielded a comeback for the third out. Holdredge added two RBI. efmarelli’s three hits leads BMT to victory t ¥ Justin Finarelli had three hits to lead the Back Mountain Royal ‘to a 64 victory over West Side in the West Side 8-9 Year Old All Star Tourney. Todd Phillips ripped a two- run homer and Andrew Mol- itoris added two hits. Pitchers Finarelli, Phillips, Sam Nocito, Alex Magdalinski and Brandon Fleschut all com- bined for a two-hitter on the mound. West Side’s Garrett Vought and Devin Hardin both sin- gled. Jacob Shusta, Paul Men- zel and Christian Stone all pitched excellent, allowing no runs. The win allowed Back Mountain to advance to the fi- nals of the winners bracket against Swoyersville. Back Mountain advanced in the tourney by way of a 10-0 whipping of Pittston Town- ship. Todd Phillips and Sam Nocito combined for a no-hit- ter and struck out 12 batters in that victory. | Phillips, Brandon Fleschut and Alex Magdalinski had two hits each. Pittston Township’s Michael Nocito had a good pitching performance, striking out six hitters. Trent Hilbert made a great defensive play. Blast schedules tryouts The Endless Mountain Blast, a travel fastpitch softball organi- zation, based in Tunkhannock, will hold tryouts.
