Leeanne Hardy, of Hunting- ton Mills, is now one of the head organizers of the group. It wasn’t until she became a moth- er to 3-year-old Marin and 1- year-old Autumn that her “fe- male instincts” to choose more natural approaches to child care kicked in. “I had an out-of-hospital birth,” she said. “While my fam- ily was nervous about it, I went off and did what felt right to me.” The mothers — and some fa- thers — meet up every third Thursday of the month at Wyoming Seminary Lower School in Kingston to discuss practices related to holistic liv- ing. The key to understanding what the group is about is real- izing everyone has a different definition of holistic, and the network boasts a welcoming, non-judgmental atmosphere to accommodate others’ beliefs. “lI think holistic health is about trying to balance all parts of oneself — physical, emotional, spiritual, mental,” said Hardy. “It's about making decisions with my kids and creating a more respectful relationship with my kids.” Not all group members are parents, though. The network has monthly topical meetings, and anyone can attend to learn more about a certain subject. While there is a $45 tax-deduc- tible fee to join the non-profit group, first-timers don’t need to pay. ampton St., Edwardsville, PA 18704. Lower School. “I'm not a mom, but I'm going to join the group,” said Megan Sgarlat Prynn, of Harveys Lake, a former environmental educa- tor for the city of Philadelphia who's looking to educate her own community about eco-con- sciousness. “I grew up playing outside ... appreciating nature,” she said. “l want to learn more about food commercialization and be more aware of what I'm eating.” Harrison was accompanied by her husband, David, and brother, Matt Cash, at the April 7 meeting. The men were more interesting in the subject at hand, planting an organic gar- den, than picking up holistic child care techniques. Cash, of Harveys Lake, al- ready uses natural cleaning products, and when the day does come for him to be a dad, he will instill those natural prac- tices into his fathering style. “I don’t know when that will happen, because I'm in graduate school now,” he said, smiling.
