Dodgeball tourney set for July I7 The Fourth Annual Zachary Shoemaker Dodgeball Tourna- ment will be held at noon on Sunday, July 17 at the National Guard Armory, Main Street, Nanticoke. Proceeds will benefit the Za- chary Bryden Shoemaker Foun- dation. The event will be a double- elimination style tournament. Refreshments, food, raffle items and face painting will be avail- able. Team registration is un- derway. Teams consist of eight people with a cost of $10 per person. This year, players are encour- aged to “rock the ‘hawk” and wear Mohawks in Zachary’s honor. When Zack and his mother were involved in an automobile accident in 2008 that left him mentally and physically dam- aged, Zack had a Mohawk of his own. He used to walk around saying, “Rock ‘n roll dude!” In light of that memory, event coordinator Stef Sikora is en- couraging dodgeball players to come wearing Mohawks or fauxhawks. In addition, Pure Lavi Salon will be on-site to cut and style Mohawks and f ) hawks. Since its inception in 2008, the dodgeball tourney event has raised more than $6,300 for the Zachary Bryden Shoemaker Foundation. Last year, a total of 32 teams participated and near- ly 30 businesses supported the event. This year, an even larger turnout is expected. The event is open to the pub- lic and admission is free. Music will be provided by DJ Scott Ste- vens. For more information, con- tact Stef Sikora at 574-5945.
