He was born on October 10, 1922, in Lake Township, was a 1940 graduate of the former Lake Township High School and received his BS degree from Bloomsburg State Teachers Col- lege in 1950. He was a member of the Ben- ton Christian Church, Oriental Lodge 460, F & AM, and the for- mer Benton Lodge 667 F & AM, for over 25 years, and also the Northern Columbia Communi- ty Cultural Center, and a charter member of the Benton Rodeo Association, serving as secreta- ry for many years. He was a char- ter member of the Benton Lions Club and was its first president, also serving as secretary for many years, on various commit- tees, and as a district officer. He was also rewarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award by Lions In- ternational in recognition of his dedication to Lions. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the American Le- gion, Wilkes-Barre. Surviving are his wife, the for- mer Barbara R. He was born November 15, 1942, attended Westmoreland High School, Shavertown, and graduated from Wilkes-Barre Business School, Wilkes-Barre. He belonged to the National Guard 109th Artillery from 1964 through 1970. His father, Arthur, built a coast-to-coast tractor- trailer business in 1968, Arthur Shelley Inc., Dallas. Arthur, his brother, Eugene, and Douglas operated the business side by side until the death of Arthur, in 1980. Douglas and Eugene Shelley neer.
