She was born in New York City, NY., but resided most of her adult life in Wilkes-Barre and in the Tunkhannock area for the past nine months. She had been employed by TWA, New York, N.Y., for several years. She worked as a clerk for Fowler, Dick & Walker, The Bos- toh Store, Wilkes-Barre. She had also been employed by First East- ern Bank,-and PNC Bank, Wilkes- Barre branches, American Red Cross, Wilkes-Barre, and Green- wald & Berk Insurance Compa- ny, Kingston. She was an active volunteer for numerous area cancer groups and was a member of First Church of Christ, Wilkes-Barre. MATUSEK - Frank J., 83, of Old Tioga Turnpike, Benton, died Thursday morning, April 21, 2011, at the Mercy Special Care Hospital, Nanticoke, where he was a patient. He was born July 14, 1927, in Mocanaqua, graduated from the former Shickshinny High School and served in the U.S. Army dur- ing the Korean War. He retired from PennDOT as a foreman. He was a member of the Shick- shinny American Legion Post . and a lifetime member of the VFW Post of Mocanaqua. He was born on December 22, 1931, in Tunkhannock, was a 1951 graduate of Tunkhannock High School, a U.S. Army veteran, and, for over 40 years, was employed as a boilermaker for Chicago Bridge. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Jean Zeme Shupp; a daughter, Tina, of Sugar Run; a brother, Roger, of Tunkhannock; nieces and nephews. SMITH - Darl, 78, of Hunlock Creek, died Friday, April 22, 2011 at his home. ; He was born on May 25, 1932, in Hunlock Creek, attended the Oakdale United Methodist Church and was a 25-year mem- ber of Sylvania Masonic Lodge 354, F&AM, Shickshinny, serv- ing 13 years as treasurer. He was the owner and operator of an auto and truck garage in Hunlock Creek for 50 years and was employed for nine years on the maintenance staff at North- west Area High School, Shick- shinny. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Iola Dodson; daughters, Ruth Ann Gutenkunst and Barbara Griego, both of Hun- lock Creek; and Janice Petriga, Larksville; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
