Both girls are members of the Junior Honor Society. In eighth-grade, they were team- mates for Mathcounts compe- tition where Spencer placed seventh in the individual competition and the team placed sixth overall. They recently volunteered in the clean up of Toby’s Creék organized by United Water. Both girls have played soc- cer for the Back Mountain Youth Soccer Association for several years and both have been members of the Dallas High School volleyball team for the past two years. Individually, Spencer has donated her hair to Locks of Love, held positions in Stu- dent Council and the steering committee at Dallas. She is a member of the LifeSmarts Club where she participated in station competition on Feb- ruary 24 and is on the track team where she medaled in districts during her freshman year. She has also attended the National Youth Leadership State Conference which fo- cuses on workshops and im- proves leadership skills. She is a member of the Interna- tional Club and mini-thons. Both girls attend Dallas sporting events to sell lolli- pops, candy and water in hopes of raising money for the leadership conference tui- tion. SCHOOL BRIEFS Forum planned on “The King's Speech’ The Departments of Speech-Language Pathology and History at Misericordia University are hosting the forum, “The King’s Speech: Understanding Stuttering and King George VI’s Lega- cy,” at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28 in Huntzinger Room 218 in Sandy and Marlene Insalaco Hall on campus. Lock-In Committee will meet March 3 The Dallas High School 2011 Graduation Lock-In Committee will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 3 in the high school library. Computer classes for ESL students The Osterhout Free Library in Wilkes-Barre is offering free basic computer classes for English Language Lear- ners (ESL) from 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays from March 5 to April 30. The classes are open only to peo- ple learning English or who want to practice English. The classes will be taught in English with support for new English speakers and the instructor is able to provide help in Spanish, as needed.
