PAGE 8 THE DALLAS POST Sunday, January 23, 2011 Third Annual Carnival at GOH set for February 5 Gate of Heaven School is host- ing its Third Annual Carnival from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Satur- day, Feb. 5 at the school cafete- ria, 40 Machell Ave., Dallas. This free event for school-age children will offer fun for the family, including a visit from Tux, a magician, the McCarthy Tire ice-cream truck from noon to 1p.m., a coloring contest, face painting and carnival games. Free pizza, hot dogs, drinks and snacks will be served. The event, sponsored by the Gate of Heaven Marketing Com- mittee, allows families from the community interested in Gate of Heaven School to visit the school. Historian to speak at MU Denise Dennis, a nationally-re- nowned historian, author and na- tive of Wilkes-Barre, will be hon- ored at the 20th Annual Diversity Institute Dinner at Misericordia University on Wednesday, Feb. 9. Dennis is president of The Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust which was created in 2001 to preserve arare historic and cul- tural resource in the Endless Mountains of Susquehanna County. The 153-acre Dennis Farm was originally settled by the family of Prince Perkins — free African Americans who emigrated to Northeastern Pennsylvania from Connecticut in 1793 with the original wave of settlement into the region following the Ameri- can Revolution. The Diversity Institute Dinner begins with cocktails at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:15 p.m. in Muth, Huntzinger and Alden Trust Rooms 217-219 of Sandy and Mar- lene Insalaco Hall.
