Sem seniors excel in National Merit competition Seven Wyoming Seminary se- niors have been named Commend- ed Students in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship competition. The students are Lauren Anthony, Kingston; Lina Bader, Mountain Top; Larissa Bohn, Swoyersville; James Curtis, Dallas; Bijoy Ghosh, Dallas; Jared Gollhardt, Dallas; and Joshua McLucas, Chambers- burg. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are recognized for their exception- al academic promise. Commend- ed students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 mil- lion students who entered the 2011 competition by taking the 2009 Preliminary SAT /National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. SCHOOL BRIEFS MU plans Adult Learner Night The Center for Adult and Continuing Education at Miser- icordia University will host an Adult Learner Night from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5 in Sandy and Marlene Insalaco Hall. Snow date is Jan. 6. The event is open to adult learners interested in obtaining more information about Miser- icordia University’s undergradu- ate and graduate programs. It is also open to those who have general questions about enter- ing or returning to college. Appointments can be made for Adult Learner Night, but no registration is required. Seminary plans Visitation Day The Wyoming Seminary Up- per School in Kingston and Lower School in Forty Fort are offering area elementary, middle and high school students and their families an opportunity to visit either campus on Monday, Jan. 17. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the Lower School and at 8:30 a.m. at the Upper School. Visiting students will attend classes, tour campus and have lunch. Novelist will lecture at Misericordia Misericordia University, in conjunction with the College of Arts and Sciences, is presenting the lecture, “Writing in My Pajamas: Thoughts on the Writ- ing Life,” by best-selling Latina novelist Sandra Cisneros at 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31 in Walsh Hall at Misericordia Uni- versity’s Lemmond Theater.
